AFL Silver Membership Waitlist Number Part 2

How many places do we think the silver to gold queue will move this year? I moved about 400 places last year and am now around no. 750 in line so it will be a miracle if I'm offered gold in 2026.

Interesting. I was about 4200 and moved to about 3500. So I was 3000 behind you and moved 300 more places. So 10% dropped off when relatively not that far off. Given up waiting or just died waiting?

Did AFL membership give you free entry to Princes Park, Vic Park and Whitten Oval in the 1990’s?

Collingwood club support definitely got you in to Vic Park in the 90s. From memory the club support got you access to all home games regardless of where they were played and then x number of away games at Princes Park, Waverley or the MCG. There were no barcodes - they just used to clip your membership card to show the number of games attended.

I just checked and I've moved from 2041 (in 2023) to 1259 (in 2024) to 795 (in 2025).

So the movement has been 782 spots from 2023 to 2024 and 464 spots from 2024 to 2025.

The AFL will never give a direct answer of their methodology and why the year-on-year movements are what they are. Although you would expect that the closer you are to Gold the less drop-offs you will see each year so the movement up the queue would slow down.

Serious, possibly slightly naive question, how can you tell? I've checked both son's Silver card, and his account on the website and I can't find any indication what spot he is in.

It's old emails, they should email you the number once per year

At Princes Park, both MCC and AFL members had a section exclusively for them in the Legends Stand, around 6-7 bays on the upper and lower levels on the Elliot Stand side. In return, Carlton social club members got AFL member access at MCG home games and level 1 seating at Docklands alongside the current AFL members seating bays on the Lockett end side.

I've gone from 3200 (2020) to 2600 (2021) to 1300 (2022) 800ish (2023) to 590 (2024) to 261 (2025)

Seems to slow down the closer I get to the finish line. I'm going to be so close to getting it next year, and i'll be PISSED if I'm in the single digits on the waitlist o_O

I shared the mobile view but it also there on desktop.
Is your son in his first season or still bronze? When I joined they didn't give a waitlist number until the following year. And it was a waitlist for Gold.

He's nearly twenty and has been an AFL member since he was about 6 years old.

15th for me, and I reckon I should be gold next year, or year after. I was told the wait time was ~7 years when I signed up at the end of 2010 :(

2010 was a bad time to sign up. If you had signed up in 2008, it probably would have been a 7 year wait.

The three Collingwood GFs in 2010/11 meant a lot of people jumped on board and as you can see that changed the membership forever.

In contrast, I signed up for the 1994 season and went to the 1997 Grand Final as a Full (it wasn't called Gold / Silver - it was called Full / Restricted) member.

My memory was from 1992-1997 there was walk up, but you could purchase a reserved seat as there were a small number of reserved seats (probably 10% of the reserve).

1998 was the first year of all reserved seats in the reserve. Why do I know that? Because in 1997 I was a 2nd year Sports Management student and conducted the survey for the AFL to determine whether members wanted to change.

My memory of the first couple of years of reserved seats were they were on sale before Grand Final week. By 2000 that must have changed because Essendon beat Carlton in the prelim (thank god - we all know what happened in 1999) and then as a group we took it in shifts to line up until the seats went on sale.

I expect 2001 was the same although as per another post, I didn't go in the members that year because I was part of the Calder Cannons and we played (and won) the curtain raiser and were given seats in the Northern Stand.
Thanks for the detailed history.

I wonder how many missed out from 1992-1997 for those that walked up on the day.

Any idea when they brought in allocated club support for AFL members?
