AFL Silver Membership Waitlist Number Part 2

Ye I am lol, I usually go MCC, 2021 was the last time I went AFL.

Personally, I think $44 for N22 is an absolute steal.
Absolutely it is a steal, but cricket access was part of the deal back when AFL Members helped fund the Southern Stand as I understand. So I think a comparison with MCC is valid. MCC is $12 to reserve (or free walk up) and guest passes $74 ($86 reserved).
Bit of an edge case but FWIW, last year I went to AFL with another member on Boxing Day and another day we went MCC (I am a member plus 1 guest pass). It was $60 one day in AFL compared with $98 in MCC. I said next time I'd rather split the difference and just go MCC both days. This year it would be $88 vs $98.

They were $30 in 2021, 50% increase over 4 years is a bit much.
Full memberships went from $645->$680->$735 since 2023. Considering we have to pay another $250 for GF tix plus booking fees for other finals and big games were basically paying more than MCC memberships now for far, faaar worse facilities and treated like absolute garbage compared to MCC members.

Free access to Marvel games (saving you $27) is not a worthless element of the membership, though. I know the Reserve sucks there, but it's not completely worthless.

While I think the AFL should use its ownership of Docklands and its own membership to provide better/free access to non-AFL Docklands events, we do have to diminish this argument because an MCC membership does not get you free access to Marvel AFL games.

Surely you would know as a Collingwood member if you’re being surpassed to Gold by other club members?
People regularly share when they joined and what number they are on the list. Couldn’t be too hard to figure it out?

Btw I joined in ‘08 and got gold in 2016. I know it became a crawl to gold if you signed in 2010 and thereafter.

You would think if it was the case there would have already been an uproar from someone out there.

And if it did happen it would be going against the AFL's own terms and conditions. As it states under section 21.1, "When issuing offers for new Gold Memberships, priority will be given to Silver Members based on their period of time spent on the waitlist."

No mention of selective upgrades, just has to do with time spent as a silver member.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I’m wondering if there’ll be a drop off in waitlist numbers this year after they canned consecutive absentee memberships?

I would say any effect would be moreso for the year after. This year was the first year that the maximum one year absentee counted against your membership, so you could have an absentee without any issues.

I just had a look and Junior Bronze membership is on sale for $355 for next year. It was $220 this year, basically a 60% hike!

MCC membership does not get you free access to Marvel AFL games.
Except MCC gets you $30 gold reserve level 2 seats at Marvel (cricket and AFL home and away - $30 is the AFL price). Seats are limited and no walk up, but they are better than the seats we get (IMHO).
I think the only way AFL membership is better value is if you are a Marvel tenant supporter who doesn't want to pay to reserve a seat. That's $300+ value there (over MCC reserving at Marvel).

The AFL has previously always included the signing fee in those pages for sign up so the price would not be the same the following year. They don't mention this, but that's fine, there are too many members anyway so we don't want them to encourage membership. So their transparency goes both ways, suggesting it could have been incompetance all along.

Junior Bronze last year didn't have a joining fee, was a flat $220 for anyone including new members.

So if next years price includes a joining fee, its a new charge.

Interesting. Gold is supposed to be capped at 30,000 members, likewise Silver which means 60,000 in total.

Yet they are selling Bronze, and Silver is deemed to have a waiting list. So obviously either Gold or Silver or both don't have the full 30,000 caps.

The phased works would ensure the venue could maintain the 70,000-seat minimum capacity required to keep AFL grand finals in Melbourne.
The major infrastructure project would take between two and three years to complete and boost the venue’s capacity by 5000 to about 105,000.
Are you able to post pics?

I'm curious, where does this requirement come from? Is it an actual requirement or the Hun speculating?
I also wonder what will happen with the GF contract. Given the MCC will largely fund the the devlopment they will likely expect an extension of the contract.
And also as I understand it, the AFL members section came about due to the AFL partially fund the previous redevelopment. Will the AFL be coughing up again? I hope so. We want them to have a stake in this.

I'd rather they built it in one year (like they did back in 1991) and just play the Grand Final at Adelaide Oval for one year.

If you tear it down after the Grand Final (say, in 2030) play the 2031 GF at AO and you could take until June 2032 until it was ready (that's 18 months). And just make sure that in 2032, the fixture is structured so that MCG tenants play the majority of their travel games in the first half of the year, and also ensure that the big clubs don't play each other until after June. That way, you could use the MCG at full capacity for the second half of 2032.

I'd rather that, than it be a construction site at 3/4 capacity for 3 years.

You can bet those that none of those extra 5,000 seats would be going to AFL members. And a potential hotel at the back of the stand? WTF!

Article says that all parties including the AFL will need to fund this, with Vic government potentially putting in more than $1 billion.

So called up yesterday and asked for an updated waitlist number, went from 1900 to a current number of 1800 and told him pretty much wtf?how? Then asked about my brother who was 3342 and he has dropped down to 3201.

Something stinks here!
Didn't think they even had those numbers out yet.

If its only dropped 100 spots there where you currently are, then imagine how bad it is for those under 500!

Going to be some unhappy people.

50-60 year wait! Longer wait than MCC!
