I'm aware, I'm ecstatic he signed. Just thought we were going up to a base of $500k is all. Management has done well
500k is now the average player wage. We can afford to go slightly higher for Jamie.

If Checkers is going to Melbourne, I'd guess that Jamie + Buller next year is about the same price as they were prepared to pay for Jamie + Checkers, therefore resulting in no greater cap hit.

are people not seeing the ridiculous money being thrown at relative spuds of the competition? The money atm is crazy and clubs are upping contracts to keep players.

Would you really want to lose Elliot for 100k diff a season?

650 is chump change for a player crucial to any finals success we have. He knocked back 3 years for 2 with us also.

And knowing how contracts like these can/are structured (not AFL ones in particular) while $650k is a nice whole figure, there could be any number of incentives, triggers etc that he needs to meet to even get there.

Also pending structure we could be paying a chunk of that in 2026 and a lot less in '27 etc

Think of it this way, if there was a free agent forward out there that is coming off a 60 goal season (8 in finals), would you be happy to pay $650k to get him?

I’d assume yes. Even if his output drops slightly, I’d still pay that much for a 40 goal season forward.

We paid $600-650k for a 25-30 goal forward just recently and it didn’t bother too many

Dynamic small forward Jamie Elliott has resisted a strong push to move north and has-re-signed to remain at Collingwood.

The unrestricted free agent has recommitted to Collingwood for at least two more years on at least $650,000 a year.

Did TD write the article?

"Dynamic small forward Jamie Elliott has resisted a strong push to move north and has-re-signed to remain at Collingwood.

The unrestricted free agent has recommitted to Collingwood for at least two more years on at least $650,000 a year.

More to come."

The contract isn’t for 2025…

Agreed Pragmatic Shill we’ve supposedly upped our offer by more than 30% which is big! I guess it’s probably as good a sign as any that we’ve abandoned retaining Mihocek…
Josh aside he was the only one who showed up to the Prelim. And if the wheels hadn’t fallen off our club for a few weeks this season he would have been AA. Would have been disastrous for him to go.

And it’s only 30% more because the original offer wasn’t realistic.

Its amusing that we're all (me included) so thrilled and relieved to not LOSE a player, even though it doesn't actually make us any better next year than we were this year. We'll all likely feel similar relief if/when its confirmed that Bobby Hill isn't leaving.

I wonder what (if anything) we might ultimately announce that genuinely improves us in 2026? So far it seems that we're not very interested in anyone and nobody's especially interested in coming to us either.

Dare we hope for news of a big surprise recruit, or are we going to be minor players in this trade/draft period?

We made the Prelim this year.

Not losing Billy & a happier Bobby is fine by me for 2026.

We've moved on some older, fringe players which gives opportunities to younger players...which could actually make us better.

We'll be bringing in a new assistant coach. That could bring improvement. We'll be bringing in someone new for development to replace Fraser. That also could bring improvement.

No doubt we'll be tweaking the game plan, perhaps making positional changes. That could also bring improvement.

This is a good news story.

It's already confirmed. Hill has left a multitude of comments online and the club has denied any willingness to let him go. Do you expect the club to make a "The rumors aren't true!" post, akin to when players sign new contracts? It's not going to happen, we have confirmation already. He's staying.

More likely the starting offer of circa $480K base plus incentives is now $550K base plus incentives but like the media all do when reporting the final figure they go for maximum bang by including all possible incentives.

So it's $480K becomes $650K, when in reality the hike is probably more like $70K.

I agree with you on the checkers thing.

I agree that its a good news story and a big relief. I never said otherwise.

My recollection might be a bit wonky but I thought Fly said post-Prelim that he expected us to be very active trade/draft participants this off-season. Little evidence of that so far but perhaps we'll come with a rush near the end?
The phrasing was more “we’re not going to stand still”, with an allusion to a more balanced approach to drafting and senior player pursuit
