For the money he'd be a risk worth taking IMO, IF his off field issues are not insurmountable. Doesn't matter if he's past his prime, doesn't get brownlow votes etc. But it does sound from all the commentary that the IF is a big IF

I also wouldn't be taking both Oliver and May.

The crucial part in your comment is:

Oliver 2-3 years ago was a top 10 mid in the game.

My preference would be to put those $ towards going all in for a gun midfielder who is younger & in their prime now for 2027 when we've lost Pendles & Sidey. My wish list includes Zac Butters.
do the same as Melb did with Grundy use him for the 2-3 years then pass him off with Melb still paying
then grab Butters as a FA

Didn't he get more than a few votes in previous years when Melbourne were winning a lot?
Hard to attract votes when your team loses more than it wins.

Just looked into it. 195 career votes. 23 games with 3 votes. 59 games in which he polled so far in his career. Definitely no dud
Good fit for Geelong. He could get a farm. Build a barn. Try to focus and hit it.

I'm all for looking at Oliver as I imagine asking price is as low as it will likely get. He has had a few bad years, his documented personal issues and made it on the park this year but form was down. He was likely in a terrible environment and somewhere he probably wasn't thriving in.

He was a top 5 player years ago and is what, like 28 or 29?
