I'll take that Checkers was a non factor against the Lions (he was injured though...probably shouldn't have played) but Cox still kicked two and wasn't our worst by any stretch of the imagination. And remember we were right in that game until 9 minutes to go....

Dunno how the youngsters would have gone, they'll get their chance soon enough.

Yep, we didn’t have many winners on the ground that day but Cox was in our top 10, if not closer to top 5. Especially when you consider he got no help from a useless Checkers on the day.

That said, the way it’s playing out right now makes sense. If Buller wasn’t coming in, Cox would be signed. Now it’s a case of maybe getting a year on minimum chips if no one else is interested.

We screwed up big time when we traded our 2021 1st round pick to GWS at the end of 2020.
We knew there would be a bid on Nick, but should have held it until the end of the 2021 season.
That way we could have split it into two later picks, matched a bid for Nick, and still had a reasonable draft hand.
Some have said we could have picked up Finn Callaghan as well as Nick, but I think we would have had an earlier bid on Nick instead.
We might still have picked up another good player - Darcy Wilmot went at 16, Kai Lohmann at 20 and Paul Curtis at 35.

Well stated but older than me.

There’s no science. Majority of the elite mids go in the top few pics. We’d need to be bottom 5 team for access unless f/s or academy like bris and g/c. You mentioned Holmes. Yup he was a good get at 20. Geel also used pick 7 on Clarke who’s likely a bust. Known quantities are worth their weight in gold.
Yep. The recruiters tend to get the mids more accurately than other roles. Not many of the good ones go outside the top dozen picks.

I doubt Cox will get any offers.
I also doubt we will have a list spot for him. The club has plans for the trade period, if they work out, Cox will be off the list.

Wilmot would have been a ripper pickup. Pity his old man didn't play another 95 games for us .

He was murdered. The Andrews Cox match up was a complete stuff up.

Nope, disagree. He kicked two, our second most SIs and got a couple of clearances of his own on 65% TOG.

He didn’t have Andrews the whole game (who tends to play the whole game and did so against us with 100% TOG). The match up is a catastrophic coaching mistake. Should have been McStay, or Checkers worst case because he was useless otherwise.

If Cox’ role was negator on Andrews, then it’s on the coaches.
If it was your traditional forward-ruck relief role, he did very well in it. As I said, I can count players who won their match ups or performed their actual role on one hand so I would take that output any day of the week, it’s just a shame there was no one else to make the most of the space it should have provided (ahem coaches and ahem Checkers).

6 possessions and a couple of lucky goals. The bar certainly gets set low for Big Mase.

Well if you’re going to cut their stats we had a team of VFL level players on the ground.

I would have gladly taken another couple of lucky goals from Checkers Schultz Sidey or Beau.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter.
Cox is too old and needs to retire.
