Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

FWIW
2024 (GF year) Florent finished 7th in the B&F
2023 6th
2022 (GF year) 10th
2021 9th

Not a star, but a solid reliable player who in those years was an ever present.
119 consecutive games to the start of 2025.

New coach in 2025 tried some positional changes, may have been seeking a different 'output' from Florent and he fell out of favour.
Played 14 games plus 2 subbed in.

Not going to suggest what he is 'worth' on the market but I think he can comfortably play HBF/wing and a new coach who trusts him may get a very useful player.
With or without Curnow would be a player that I think we should be interested. Provides run off HB and can even push onto a wing. Pretty good user of the ball as well. Also played under Longmire which is always a bonus for me

I'm pretty bad at hypothetical trades but would this work?
Charlie to swans for their first this year and next as well as Hayward and Florent.
We trade either the first we get from them this year or TDK compo pick to GC and a future 2nd for Bailey.
That way we still have a first this year to match potential early Dean bid or trade out/split if he slides and another first next year so we have 2 first rounders for Cody.

That could definitely work
But imo if im carlton you worry about Cody next year with trading out 2027 and 2028 future picks
I dunno just feels like if we trade out one of the best full forwards with the draft picks we already have youd be wanting another gun midfielder with Hayward Florent and Humphrey, so you could trial cripps playing more as a forward

Unrelated but surely you’d prefer a consistent good ruck like Marshall vs an inconsistent VERY expensive ruck (who ofcourse has some blinders )
Can’t believe they’ve gone down this path

They essentially swapped Marshall for TDK and will receive a 1st round pick (Geelong's). TDK also much younger so has way more years left.

Marshall out -> TDK, 1st Rd pick in.

Pretty smart business.

Regardless, the compo picks give us some good leverage to make moves either for our F/S prospects or to attack trades. The freed up salary cap is a bonus too.

Dees currently don’t have any good picks (26, 58, 63) due to their trade with the bombers.

But, they should get a first rounder in the Petracca trade.

I think if Charlie gets traded the picks from that combined the ones we got today from TDK and Jack we could have a better hand to satisfy the Suns in a Humphrey trade and they need picks for their academy players.

On paper it seems like a good move but doesn’t develop a team first environment. Pushing heart and soul players out the door.

Bold strategy. Let’s see if it works

Yep, he's contracted, so it'd take a fair bit to get them to part with him.

If we're prepared to trade the TDK compo pick together with the Swans' 1st rounder for pick 2 from WCE to get some skinny kid, then it'd take that plus more to get Humphrey from GCS.

It may not be a lot more, possibly a future 2nd, but they have a right to drive a hard bargain. He's 21yo and a gun....

Thats my thinking. Would allow us to get out of the Harry Dean "hit zone".

Walk away with Pick 3/4, Dean + Ison from the draft.
I would be happy as a pig in shit with that result from the draft.

Be interesting to see what we get in the way of second and third round picks from some of our lesser lights over the trade period. Maybe trade the Silvagni compo with McGoven and Binns for 21, 36, and Chesser?

What do you think Humphrey is worth?
He's worth about a Charlie, maybe slightly more. He's contracted for years like Charlie. He's younger. Charlie's been better (not this year) but has peaked, Humphrey could catch him over the next 10 years. On these points they're probably worth similar.

The big difference for me is the position of each team. Gold coast are wanting to push from finalist to premier. They need to improve now, not in a few years. If they are to get rid of their contracted player, they want to improve immediately.

I'd say Charlie and our TDK pick for Humphrey and their future first. Future first helps us with Cody. TDK pick helps them with theirs this year. Charlie helps them with marketing as well as on field. This may not be enough for them though, because like it or not, they are in a stronger position.

We are also in more need of some sort of a win for the club. When was the last time a player with multiple options chose to come to us? If he does nominate is, we need to make it happen more than GC do.

Looking more and more likely the landing zone for the Charlie trade now. Would take it in a heartbeat.

Package 10 and 11 for Richmond or WCE pick 2 or 3, take the best kid there (Duff or Duursma), use points to match Dean, build points later to match Ison, walk away with 2x future firsts in tact for Cody bid next year + a 2027 1st that we could trade into 2026 Round 1 if required.

Florent, Hayward, Duff/Duursma, Dean, Ison, Buku, Riedy, Chesser (+ Cody 2027) IN
Gov, SOS, TDK, Charlie OUT
Jagga, Newman, Kemp to return
Sign Ethan Phillips as SPP KPD backup in the backline

2026 Potential Starting Lineup (names in bold additions vs. 2025 squad incl. those returning from long term injury)
B: Cowan Weiters Haynes
HB: Saad Buku Newman
C: Ollie Cripps Florent
HF: Jagga Kemp Williams
F: Motlop Harry Hayward
R: Riedy Hewett Walsh
INT (from): Cerra Evans Chesser Dean Pitto Fogarty Carroll Durds Lord Young x2 Moir Cottrell HOK White Wilson Binns Campo x2 Ison Duff/Duursma

Like it.
Buku is a medium/3rd tall. He's only 190cm tall and he's going to be used forward if we can get him.

Source for the Maley news is a former NBL peer/colleague from when I was involved in the league. That's why I put disclaimer on it (I had heard a few weeks ago he planned or hoped to re-sign).
Reckon Maley may be one to keep an eye on if Charlie gets traded out to the Swans.

He's still unsigned at North along with 3 others on their rookie list. And after they took Banch and Trembath in the MSD, and now Spargo as a FA, their list is overstocked. The other issue they have is that they could/should lose the additional 2 rookie spots as part of their assistance package a few years back. It was only meant to be for 2024, but the AFL extended it for another year (2025). Hopefully they won't extend it for an additional year.

Which basically means that they won't be able to re-sign any of those uncontracted rookies (unless they delist contracted players) and Maley becomes a DFA.

There's rumours on the Swans board that they are potentially into him, but if they end up with Charlie, that'll likely go out the door.

Like I say, I reckon he could be a watch, especially if he becomes a DFA which is looking likely at the moment.

Humphrey would really move the needle for us with Cody, Jagga and Dean but hard to see it happening. It would create a brand new crop of elite talent to build again from
Absolutely he would, and a lot more than anyone else who's name's been thrown up.

One thing about this whole trade period is, that if we lose 2 (maybe even 3) of our top line players (especially a 3rd gen father/son), and we fail to nail a player we really need, then I think we'll see the clubs circle like vultures to to pick the bones for any players they can prise loose.

Maley’s being held on watch with North atm they’ll see what the go is over the next few weeks before offering him something. They may seek to throw him back given they need defenders. They brought Trembath in initially as a defender but the kids always been a natural forward and went past Maley. They also will be losing the 2 additional list spots so not looking good for the moose

If that's where it stands then cool. I haven't heard anything else on this one since I posted it (without having much stock in it personally).

I think our second rounder will go for Khamis with maybe something coming back.

Future picks for Reidy and Chesser
I think that it might be McLovin and our third for Chesser and their third.

Gone very quiet on Gruszewski in here…. Would’ve thought talk would ramp up with Charlie likely to depart….

I thought he was heavily linked to Collingwood?
