Reckon couple of the weaker runners are dodging the running to prevent slipping lower

You know they already have all their results. This is just a box ticking exercise, the results only matter if they’re out of the box.

FYI I’m pretty sure Sharp was top 5 when SA state squad did their 2km time trials

We’d need Suns to have to use 2 x existing picks on Petracca which would put Patterson right in our sights which is where we’d benefit!

On the assumption they want him of course.

Your secondary scenario where they maybe don’t want him due to their current needs would work mighty fine for us too!
that is assuming he really is top 5 rather than slightly out of the top 5

It looks like Zeik is highest rated and his brother is at Suns

If all was open could make the argument Zeik is somewhere in top 3, I think this is generally the consensus without going intto to much depth, Patterson has traits however argument could be made he could come in at 6 or 7 with Zeik higher but like others have suggested, let Patterson go and Suns get Zeik and others easier.

Patterson might be a bit close to other Suns they already have, this might be part of any rationale Suns might have on who they pick

assuming zeik taken out that means CDT, Cummings, Duursma, Patterson, Robey, Sharp if Gold Coast only choose Zeik, not Patterson, so West Coast , Richmond and Essendon can split up the group

He is in some ways.

I look like my mother and my father, yet they look nothing alike.

Sully can be like both Yeo and McCluggage without them being like each other. And he is.

Also only really a description of how he plays as a midfielder.

None of these guys play forward like him because he’s been playing as a genuine KPF/CHF for eastern til finals.

He plays very much like a mihocek/adelaide Tom Lynch undersized KPF with his ability to be a hit up lead to the wings and general pack marking ability/ability to bring ball to ground. Eastern used him a lot for long kicking down the line target when they got stuck.

But he still has that ground ball ability of a mid resting forward or a powerful HFF like Degoey/Stringer.

Dare I say it, he is a bit Matty Pavlich

How does it work for Gold Coast going into deficit if they trade their future first round pick?

Does the deficit just apply to whatever the first pick is that they have (be in 2nd or 3rd round)? I assume it’s not the case that the club who traded for their first pick would have that pick moved back

I would hope that WC start doing some bidding with pick 2 at the very least

Why does he remind me of Stack a little

In game arrogance

Am I right in saying patterson is a HBF in the same way Luke Hodge was a HBF?

Kind of. He’s athleticism/speed/agility makes Grlj look average. He just has this ability to take time with ball in hand because his massive athletic advantage lets him get out of virtually any trouble.

I think he could play as a mid eventually or at worst a wing.

If West Coast picked Patterson number one, that would get Gold Coast thinking

Why would West coast do this??

West Coast they do not have his type and think he will not depart, assuming they get the other pick they can pick whoever else.

this is where it is interesting. would Gold Coast match at one, possibly not as Zeik have to be right up their and I think more likely to match as some rate him higher and brother at the club

greater chance CDT slips to Bombers but maybe not.

Imagine is West Coast got Patterson and then Sharp, that would be a bloody interesting combination. probably allow Harley Reid to roam a bit more

One of our first two picks (if held) will be Duursma. I rate Uwland over Patterson. Depending on how the Petracca trade goes down, if we’re smart we’ll go:

1. Patterson (matched)
2. Uwland (unmatched)
3. Duursma

Will Bonnie Clarke actually think of this or do it? Probably not.

Do those picks stay where they are, or are they pushed back with the compo picks? If the latter, then 6 becomes 7, 14 becomes 16 and 17 becomes 19, resulting in a lot less points.

Of course bids coming earlier than 3 & 5 change the equation further.
I've never been able to quite work this out.
Googling always gives very basic examples. Can never find answers to these scenarios.

Gold coast may not match Patterson at 1, but they'll match uwland no matter what

I’d be very happy with either, but the only way we’d get enough points out of them to get one or the other is by doing it this way.
Yeah you have to bid on both top 2 to force Gold Coast to use their points up, but I think it makes no difference where Uwland is bid he will be matched. I would assume it's beneficial to have Uwland bid on at 1 then they are forced to match more based on that initial pick then letting Patterosn bid on at 1 then leaving they can match bid 2 with less then points for uwland.
I think Patterson is the only one in question really and even then, id be surprised if Gold coast don't match, hopefully both of our teams make sure they pay full price with these comments coming out though.

TOP PROSPECTS SHINE IN TIME TRIAL

SANDRINGHAM Dragons midfielder Jack Dalton staked his claim as the best endurance athlete at this year's Telstra AFL Draft Combine, while Oakleigh Chargers jet Sam Grlj also enhanced his credentials as a potential top-10 pick after the first day of testing on Friday.

Dalton and Grlj were the only two players to break the six-minute barrier during the 2km time trial at Collingwood's AIA Centre on Friday evening, with Dalton setting the pace with a blistering time of 5:53.

It followed a terrific season for Dalton, who was one of Sandringham's best in the Coates Talent League Grand Final last month with 23 disposals after returning from two broken wrists in a freak gym accident earlier in the year.

Grlj, who is seen by clubs as a potential top-10 pick and is likely to again impress during the sprint events later in the weekend, ran a time of 5:59 following a tight battle with Dalton after the two were paired together in the same group.

Oakleigh Chargers key forward and ruck Louis Emmett was another to impress during the 2km time trial, defying his 199cm frame to record the third best time of the combine with a 6:07 effort.

The 2km time trial on Friday afternoon was the first of the major events of the national combine, with the country's best prospects to spend Saturday interviewing with clubs at the MCG before further athletic testing on Sunday. – Riley Beveridge

As compo picks are added current draft picks slide back to fit them in.

Eagles started with pick 19 from the AFL, bit it has now become pick 21 due to TDK & Silvagni picks being added.

It’s interesting all these academy gun mods going to the Lions and Suns. You would think a lot of them are destined for 100 games of VfL even though they are jets due to the strength of those midfields/flanks. I wonder if a few wish they were in the open draft.

Pretty sure they can choose to be in open draft. Father sons definitely can.
