If the draft order goes as the following can someone work out what the points situation would be at the suns?

1. WC - Duursma
2. WC - Bid on Uwland (matched GC)
3. WC - CDT
4. RT - Bid on Patterson?

Guess it’s all guesswork now until we know what saints officially give for Flanders and what GC give Melbourne for Petracca.

They would be 550pts in deficit if they use pick 6(7) for Petracca and keep pick 7(8) that they likely get from the Saints.

So they have enough for Patterson but don't have enough for Addinsal, Coulson, Murray and Collins.

If they pass on Patterson then they could match bids on 3 of those other guys.

If suns think he is the difference between a semi and a prelim / gf, they will pay up and dees will know this and push hard I reckon.


On the deficit stuff, I think there is a limit on how much deficit you can go into?

As for the points thing I’m more interested in what happens if GC trade 2026 rd 1. The deficit situation in that case doesn’t impact their 1st as they don’t have one.

Coulsen is a top talent to not match.

Coulsen has already performed at a pretty decent level at VFL. Averaging 16 touches kicking 3 goals in 6 games. Had 26 touches, 5 tackles and a goal in last VFL game against GWS.

So essentially we need WCE to bid on someone at 1 to really tighten the screws and make this interesting.

West Coast, Gold Coast and Richmond are all relatively chummy back of house and have a good working relationship. I think at best we will see some token bidding if any which doesn't jeopardise Gold Coasts overall academy picks.

West Coast will let it slide. Maybe we will bid at pick 4 if there aren't broader implications.

Essendon and Carlton are less likely to play nice.

Saints pick 7 from GC and some loose change/future 2nd will get the Petracca deal done.

If we take 3 and 4 to the draft it looks pretty impressive on paper the picks we would have take over the past 2 years

1, 3, 4, 7, 12, 14, 21, 23, 28, 58

Plus probably another top 4 pick and an early 2nd next year.

Why do people think so many suns players are now meeting with other clubs? It's no coincidence.

Gold Coast will prioritize their home grown talent . Really hope some of us aren't going to waste hours and hours talking about how those players end up here. Leave that for the Eagles board.
