So if Mihocek is the only change to our forward line, that means we need to replace essentially 36 goals from him based on 2025 output.

I don't think that with the inclusion of Buller, more games from Bobby + West and the return of Harrison that this is such a big hole to fill.

Maybe I'm too glass half full
+ hopefully an improved McStay

I wasn’t expecting he’d retire and I’m expecting he survives that first year not thrives so make of that what you will in terms of how you’d like to treat my posting.
Normal people survive the first year of kids. People with money just get the extra help they need to thrive.

Humphrey meeting with Collingwood went very well apparently

Gold Coast have 3 and potentially 4 (Flanders) first round picks this year. Can't see them wanting that. Wonder if something like Pies Future 1st 2026 + Pies Future 1st 2027 For Humphrey + 2025 Pick 17. Means we would have a pick in the first round and still get a 1st round pick within 4 years. Not sure if we're allowed to trade for our own pick back?? Think we might need to sweeten this one a bit still.

Checkers + future 2nd to Melbourne for $600k Clayton Oliver

Hill + future 1st for Bailey Humphrey

A midfield rotation of Naicos, Clarry, Humphrey, De Goey, Perryman, Jaicos, Long, Beau and Pendles is good enough to rival any other midfield in the league.
Why would we pay that much for a player they’re clearly so desperate to be rid of? Any club that Oliver chooses will say “you pay $700k and here’s a token pick, or he can play VFL for you for $1.4m”, with Oliver echoing the same sentiment.

The Dees have the least amount of leverage in this situation that I can ever recall seeing.

Imagine the melts on here if West doesn't line up for us in R1.
I’d imagine the most likely trio would be McStay, Membrey and Buller, unless West absolutely kills it in the preseason.

Other than coaching and game plan effectiveness, next season will probably come down to how much support Jordy and Long and whoever else runs through the middle gives Nick.

Yeah, I reckon West will be going up against Membrey in the first instance. I'll be interested in seeing his fitness base after another preseason

It looks like we probably don't have to mortgage future early picks to match bids this year, which is a good thing.
Is it? Bris get access to a top 5 mid. We get access to speculative players? I don’t get the “it’s good the players linked to us aren’t rated” arguments. Having access to academy/fs loses its appeal the later they fall in the draft for mine

Good luck to Mihocek

I think it’s exciting with a new look tall forward mix.

Buller coming in
Mcstay should be hungry and should be played deep forward next season.

Charlie West also to get more games potentially.

Mihocek has been a wonderful servant but he looked incredibly banged up this season and at 33, it was time to invest resources elsewhere
Yeah, he's been a terrific story & respected team member, but I honestly think he's looked banged up by late season for several years.

I guess the excitement of Westy's quick development has many not really hurting over his departure.

Saw their team on paper with the additions. Doesn’t excite me given the $ etc. lot of b graders that might improve them but doesn’t make them a genuine flag threat to me.
Is TDK much of an upgrade on Marshall?

dumping the captain

Only managing a two year deal for NAS where he’s just as likely to walk into free agency

No to trading future 1st picks. Keep them for any potential Butters trade next year.

Boo freaking hoo , lets just deal with the hand we have and get on with it.

Yea how do you feel about Josh daicos now?

Our team needs to replace multiple players at multiple positions within the next 2 years, having more draft capital allows us greater flexibility to achieve that.

I think McStay being a full time key forward ( and not a backup ruck) will largely replace Mihocek. McStay’s goal input should increase to 25-30, with others chipping in like you have mentioned to make up the difference.

Would it be fair to assume the saints are potentially getting 2-3 wins from all the free agent signings and trades combined this year?

That will only take them to 12 wins maybe 13 wins, still below the 14 required in the 23 game era.

They still lack enough game winners outside of NWM to catapult them into the 5-8 slot.
