He is truly one of the best players Port Adelaide FC has ever produced, but just pull the bandaid off now. Hold him to his deal, match the RFA offer next season. We bend over for our best player then there is no chance for this team.
Take a principled stand like we did with Stevens.

Option 1.

Just hold, and match whatever free agency puts up regardless of price. Then trade the year after when Butters is contracted for even more and NWM is out of contract.

Option 2.

Send to a bottom side (Essendon need a captain, Richmond, maybe Norf) for a young gun player and enough future 1sts to get Cochrane, Pilot and Salopek. We can death ride them for a few years.

Option 3.

Do nothing, and go into battle next year.

I understand People's angst at this but the club won't be trading Zak this year. Cal twomey has said this numerous times.
Zak has also said Publicly he will make a decision end of next year. Like Nwm did at the saints he will play his best next year I have no doubt. Hopefully we're flying and it might convince him to stay even if it's only a couple of more years. Either way he has every right to consider his options next year. don't know if this cleary story is 100% accurate or not he has got things wrong many times before. All I know is let's worry about 2026 and see if we can jag a flag it will ease the pain if in fact Zak does leave after that. Still think he is undecided beyond next year and still a chance to stay
