I really have no strong feelings one way or the other provided we get an appropriate deal for him. As much as I would prefer not to lose a great player who I like, It's not like he dragged us over the line in a bunch of critical finals games.

Plenty of examples of elite players moving clubs only to see their old club do well out of it. We can't be shitting the bed at the trade table like we did with Houston though.

Restricted free agency everywhere else means that the original club matches = player has to stay and sign at that club.

But it's not the case in AFL where the player becomes technically an unrestricted free agent and the clubs would then just trade.

No. He will be a Restricted FA so you can match the offer and force a trade. Much like what we did with Dangerfield. All though we accepted way unders. But it was more than we would have got had we not matched and got a compo pick.

I agree, mate. But at the end of the day if he's checked out and isn't willing to dig deep then he's free to go with the knowledge that he isn't irreplaceable. Personally, I think he'd disappear if he went to a club such as Geelong or Collingwood - Hawthorn or St Kilda would suit him best.
