Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Cowan had a missed opportunity with injury this year and Newman will give us a bit. I still don't subscribe to Saad being finished like others do. He missed Newman a lot this year. If you only have one runner in your defence they will get targeted and that is what Saad copped all this year. I think Newman back and Cowan going better and of course our younger ones like Carroll, Wilson and Charleson, we will see a resurgence in Saad's game and our defensive output in general.

HOF is exciting. Great size, pace and reads the game well. There is actually a little bit of Stephen Silvagni in his first season about him. Skills very good, moves and jumps really really well for his height. A steal, it's a shame he broke down.

I don't like Hollands on a wing, has hardly played any good football there. He's a natural half back and I called this from day dot with him. Hollands has good defensive traits and as a backman you don't need to be quite as quick of a thinker. He's very see ball get ball but he knows the basics of how to stay wide and receive which can be taught.

Hollands is like Cottrell as a winger, they run up and down all day and don't hardly touch the ball. Wing, to be really good you need to be instinctive and a quick thinker and pick the moments when an opportunity comes for you to go and you also need to be able to setup 2 or 3 steps ahead of the play. Acres does this well and if you have ever closely watch Steel Sidebottom play wing you will know exactly what I mean because he is unreal. Hollands does not have this and nor does Cottrell and this is why they will always be 7-15 possession wingmen who cover 15km per game and have a low impact on games. Wing is like small forward, it is a position you have to have the natural born instincts for and Hollands and Cottrell down. I don't know about Chesser. Walsh and Cerra do. Haynes surprisingly read the game well on the wing.

O Hollands is a halfback and only a half back but he can pinch hit on a wing. Same as Cottrell is a half forward and only a half forward who can pinch hit on a wing.

Evans was awesome in the VFL playing high up the ground from half forward for a month and I was screaming for us to play him in the role in the AFL. We eventually brought him in but played him deep and it failed, then we brought him back and played him at half forward and he was great. Goes to show how shit/slow our coaching is. Evans actually provided something we desperately needed later in the season.

McKay and Curnow hardly playing a game fit and mentally sound killed us this year as did Moir not being quite ready and Kemp going down. A full season this year with Kemp, McKay and Curnow fit and Moir where he finished off the season and we probably make finals this year or get very close to it.

Part of defending a game is being able to gain possession and keep possession of the ball in the front half and we were poor with this. Lack of forward targets and lack of run and carry to support our forwards also was an issue. You only have to look at the grand final. Geelong stayed with Brisbane and at times were outplaying them but struggled to gain and hold possession in their front end. No wonder they are wanting Curnow. It's often the reason a team can't finish games off well because this is the best way to run out of gas, if you can't get possession and keep possession in your forward end you spend too much of the game defending which exhausts your team.

Walsh and Smith need a third mature bodied mid who can run and has agility and is genuine A grade. I don't see Smith playing a lot of footy in the middle. He's still built like a match stick and I think he will be parked at half forward or half back playing up and around the midfield in an outside role. Possibly wing and probably for at least the next two seasons. This is great for us because we also need this.

Say we happen to land Butters. I'd be training Cerra differently, slimmer, more running and sending him back to a wing. Cerra has wing instincts, he can play there, which Cottrell and Hollands don't. Cerra was trending to be elite in the role early in his career and he should be looked as as going back to a wing. Second thing I would do is play Smith at half forward in the plus 1 midfielder role or at half back in the role with stints in the middle. Cripps and Hewett playing on ball in a traditional centremans role with Walsh and Butters feeding off them. That's what a modern midfield looks like, not the crap we have been serving up. Short burst rotations through there would be Chesser, Motlop and Moir.

We can't allow oppositions sides to identify times where we have gone too slow in there and target the one quick mid, this happens too much with our onball group and our half back group.

C: Haynes Cripps Cerra
HF: Smith * Chesser
OB: O'Keeffe Walsh Butters
IC: Lord Hewett

Give me this for a starting midfield please and watch us push for top 4.

I am with you. I am not down about where we are at all. I think we have a lot of potential for a good season next year depending on how things go in the trade period.

I think our backline will be fine. I am not worried about who plays CHB next season. Young was actually ok there at the finish of last season and we know he can get us through to a point and allow Dean to develop in the AFL. 2027 is going to be terrific with Weitering, Dean and O'Farrell, that's a terrific combination.

I hope we can land a few forwards for cheap. Someone like Heyward adds a lot to our side. Can we land a gun A grade mid? If we do that it elevates us off the ground. If not our midfield will struggle next year, quicker teams will walk all over us a bit but I am hopeful that we can sort this out this year or next.
After all that you forget to put Frankie at HF. Instead you chose Chesser.

I appreciate that BUT why the sudden change in behaviour? What has led to these 'issues'? He wasn't putting his hand up to be in the leadership group 12 months ago if he was always planning to exit this trade period. Something pointed has happened.
Whether something has or hasn’t, it’s still on Charlie to ride the ups and downs like a pro.

You sign a long-term deal and you have to accept it’s not all going to be sunshine and daisies over the journey.

We sit here as a supporter base and rightfully demand standards from Voss and co as leaders, and that goes for Charlie too.

Just thinking about CC to Geelong.

Shannon Neale is a proud WA born KPF. Would WCE see him as a replacement for Oscar Allen? Would they use their 1st pick this year for him and a fringe player?

Geelong could get that pick and forward to Carlton and somehow mix and match some swaps with Chesser included in the deal to us, so we end up with 1st round WCE pick, Chesser and Geelong FF1 we give up CC.

Use WCE 1st pick + for Butters/Humphrey's.

Values Curnow at around pick 2
Values Humphrey at around pick 6
Values Neale at around pick 12

Pretty reasonable really on first glance

I think we can all understand why the club is disappointed in EH without going into it.

The ONE question I think we're all entitled to know is WHY is Curnow so 'off' the club? It's the one piece that seemingly no journo wants to learn. He's adored by his teammates & the fan base. He was put into the leadership group and was/is a respected, loved & valued member of the team. Why the sudden 180 degree change in behaviour & attitude??

Voss and the footy dept had one job - keep this guy healthy & happy and we'll get 70 goals a year from him for the next five years, merch & memberships will be as strong as ever - from the outside looking in - they've f****d it up royally.

I want to know why there is a blowup between the club & Charlie and how its happened.

(have been told by one close associate of Charlie that Voss is a poor relationship coach and never speaks to Charlie. IF that happens to be true it's a disgrace we've got the point where Charlie is now 'desperate' to get out.)

I'm not sure the club's one job was to keep Charlie happy. It's that kind of pedestal pandering that can infect a whole squad.

Hard truths need to be told sometimes and a professional footballer would take those truths as a challenge, not an excuse to walk away.

I was told that Charlie's grievance was in the high performance area. Could it be as simple as Rob Innes coming in with a new strategy and new individual requirements, and Charlie not liking it?

As for Voss, I thought man management was his greatest quality. At least he was very loyal to his first stringers.

Warner becomes part of the trade if he ends up at WCE

Agree woudl be flight risk if he came to us
Wet Toast apparently considering putting pick 1 on the table of the offer is good enough. Pick 1 for Warner and Shitney's first... Pick 1 and shitney's F1 for Curnow.

WEST Coast is "unlikely" to give up the No.1 draft pick in a trade, but is willing to listen to rival clubs' offers for the prized selection.

The Eagles currently have two first-round picks at their disposal, plus the end-of-first-round selection they received as part of an assistance package from the league.

and no mature player coming to us?

so basically for sydney lose warner, first round this year and first round next year for curnow

seems steep for them

Geelong future first + WCE pick 2 + Chesser for Curnow I’d be happy with at a minimum. But maybe we could get Miers thrown in too lol.

The media would be all over concrete reasons for Curnow wishing to depart, if they existed
I think the individuals petulance skews his capacity to be objective on game plan and injury management
It is easy to use those reasons as a smoke screen to cover the real ones such as lifestlyle preferences, reneging on a contract and the grass is greener syndrome.

Does it look like I wear a red and white V on my jumper? What do I care about Shitney.

fair enough Dram
We seriously undervalue our players. And so do other clubs. If they want a 2 time Coleman winner who's at his peak, with minor injury concerns, they can pay through the nose.

Hysterical reply, really side splitting.

What do you want? me to come around and suddenly believe that Elijah has been unjustly prosecuted and that Charlie really wants to stay?

The smoke is filling the room man, time to admit that there's a fire
