Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Message I got we are very interested but will depend on what GCS want

And for all the talk and speculation no one has put an offer to us re: Charlie yet although some suspect Swans are working on a deal to blow us away

One of the Swans ITK's suggests the Swans are pretty confident of getting a deal done. Take that with a grain of salt though.

On Blue Abroad's Trade Period Recap Day 2 podcast, one of his regulars came on and said that Ainsworth will be a Carlton player next year. Says he's not sure of the trade details, but his source says he's coming to Carlton.

Of course, we have no idea on his 'source', but right now everything seems to pointing that way.

I reckon GCS will be pretty keen to get him off the books to free up salary and a list spot for Petracca, so shouldn't cost a lot being essentially a salary dump for them.
Potentially 2 x dumps in BA & Florent, need to be careful in wasting too much money for the next 4yrs on non-needle movers > VFL players.

So what would you consider a 'reasonable' offer from Geelong is given their priority is Marshall?

Gryan Myers, Oli Henry, George Stevens, their 2025 first and their 2026 first round pick.

That's one player of note, two players who can't get a game for them, and two picks in the 18-20 range (after F/S and academy etc).

There's a few other players you can swap in/out depending on how they see things landing but that sort of level I think is needed to tempt us. I think Myers is the gettable one of their second tier stars, if any.

But we really need something like that, and I think it gets a bit underestimated how crappy a future first-round pick is likely to be if we trade it in from Sydney/Geelong for Curnow.

I genuinely dont think we're going to be anywhere near as bad as some other posters are suggesting we will be. Id be pretty confident of saying we'll finish in the top 8 in 2026.
My biggest concern is still KPD. Weiters can't continue to do it all and Young isn't reliable.

I think our Forward line with or without Charlie can kick a decent score if the ball is delivered to us.
Assuming Jagga lives up to expectation, Walsh gets his body right, and we play Williams Mid/Fwd, I think we'll do a lot better next year, especially if we can get some good recruits.

Geelong on the other hand, had better be pulling some serious Rabbits out of the magic hat of theirs, when you consider their older players cannot possibly continue to get them across the line and they rely too heavily on Dempsey's scoring.

Yeah I had a peek before, they have some good top tier players (whom they wouldn't/Couldn't part with) followed by Sweet FA. I think they'll finish lower than us next year. They are putting a LOT of eggs in the Marshall basket but I reckon they are seriously ****ed now.

While I agree Geelong are going to slide next year, I can't see them being worse than us...

With the outs we're facing, the players we're bringing in, we're really going to struggle next year.

Don't reckon Oli Henry would be considered - didnt they recently get him into the club to play with his brother?
One of Myers/Mannagh + SDK & 2025 first & 2026 first round picks would be preferred.
Stevens is an inside mid - why would we want another inside mid? We need outside run and disposal.

Geelong will not get serious about bringing Charlie in...

They'll lowball us with a couple of picks and when we say no, they'll **** off.

His name has been mentioned in passing as on the table for O.Henry.

Yeah - I can't see any realistic offer once you consider Marshall as the Priority.
Would love a couple of Myers/Dempsey/Holmes/SDK

I think they'll slide more than expected and I reckon we can cover our (current) losses without too much impact (Charlie aside).

You don’t seem to grasp that different years have different drafts, and so the picks have different values.

If a club offers us a 2026 1st rounder just to slide our TDK compo pick within the 1st round we would bite their hand off.

Well we'll see I guess. The pick trades are never this simple anyway. LMs love sliding 6 different picks up and down the order as part of any deal.

Critical component of every deal is that pick 60 has to become 62...

Maybe we can do what Geelong did and get a first round pick with Ainsworth.

Could Blues Swans and GC do a 3 way deal for Charlie with Ainsworth involved?
Swans throw in a decent player and picks for Charlie an we send one of those picks to GC for Ainsworth?
Although atm the Swans dont want to give up diddly squat for a quality player in Charlie.

Listening to the journos this evening, it seems:

Geelong are deluded and will get no where near our asking price.

Sydney are at least indicating they are somewhat serious but are yet to put forward anything of note. Their comments today if believed to be true are concerning that Hayward and other players are not moving. If they are trying to get players from other clubs involved, they’ll be average players who won’t move the needle. Hoping we hold Curnow if this is the case.

Don’t mind the Ainsworth potential acquisition if it comes relatively cheap but we need to separate that from the Curnow deal. You don’t trade a generational talent for 2-3 B graders.

G’day mate

Been around long enough to see the same rubbish play out more times than I care to count. But I’ll tell you what, we’ll come out of this with a tidy little bag of picks, a few blokes shown the door, and a proper operator steering the ship when the dust settles.

A couple of the other old Flagger Baggers pointed me this way, to the forums so I thought I’d see what all the fuss is about.

Number 17 isn’t far off, not if we finally clear out the conditional types. You know the ones, more worried about selfies and pay packets than putting their body on the line for the jumper. Time to stop coasting, stop chasing cheap cheers, and start playing for something that actually bloody matters.

Agree to all of that. Geelong and Mackie can GAGF, and good luck to him dealing with SOS in the Marshall trade.

Swans in the box seat. They know the lay of the land, and what Carlton need both this year and next with the father son nominations. They'd also be fully aware that we're serious about acquiring a quality player in the deal.

A future 1st would likely go a long way in acquiring Cody along with our own. It also potentially unlocks other future picks for trades if we wanted to go down that path.

My prediction is that at the end of the trade period, it'll look like this:

Charlie, 2026 3rd >> Swans >> 2025 1st, 2026 1st, Hayward >> Carlton

I don't reckon Florent will be part of the deal. Any potential trade for him would be separate to the Charlie one if we're at all interested. Swans get our future 3rd back to 'soften the blow' so their supporter base doesn't feel they've been ripped off in the deal. At the end of the day, after all the haggling, I think there'll be a fair bit of goodwill from both sides in the final trade scenario.

Unlike the slimy used car salesman from Sleepy Hollow.
