Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I agree I don’t think we’re going to be much chop next year. A few key injuries and we could very well slide into the bottom 4. Bottom 3 with west coast Essendon is not out of the question. If we have a good run with injuries (which doesn’t happen to us so not holding my breath) we could make sneak into the 8. But with the changes forecast I see us finishing 10th - 14th all things considered.

However I don’t think it’s going to take long to bounce back. A midfield in 2029/2030 of Walsh, Cerra, Jagga, Walker and whoever else we can prize out will be all 30 or under and pretty formidable … backline of HOF Dean and weiters if he can hold on is pretty good as well. The forward half is where there needs to be investment in the next 3-4 seasons in free agency or trade with another gun key and X factor small forward but we might get Hayward out of the Charlie deal this year.

I don’t think all is lost in the medium term
If Hayward is in our plans to contend for a flag than Weitering and McKay should be there. They are all pretty close in age.

May, gawn, petraca, lever, viney all aging out, Oliver has about 15 strikes and all of this was known when he signed the contract.

No sympathy
Yep, no cooling off period or buyers remorse. He’s got the money lined up, now he has to do the time.

Side will actually be built around him as the star piece..whenever Gawn is gone.

Saw last night the AFL have effectively given back all clubs their 2023 & 2024 first round picks as far as having to use 2 picks in 4 years goes.

So basically Collingwood who won't have used a first round pick since matching a bid for Daicos with a bunch of 3rd rounders in 2022 can still trade out their next 2 first rounders.

Throw in Silvangi being 15 months older than Allen costs us about 20 picks and I am really starting to get p!$$ed with the AFL making stuff up as they go along

I dont really get the 2 picks in 4 years or can't trade F2 & F1 rules. I get that you dont want the current administration to mess up the future of the club but when you allow clubs to hand out these obscene contracts its kind of a mute point.

The point isn't moot when you look at the Eagles getting draft compo just 7 years after winning a premiership.

And when you have some teams trading away first round picks and then getting them gifted back while others have kept their powder dry and now lose that advantage it creates a real advantage for some clubs.

This year, when they changed the DVI and matching rules from pick 37, and allowed trading future picks 2 years into the future.

It would be nice if they would publish the rules

Why are they going there, shouldn’t swans be coming to us.

Maybe somebody who lives in Sydney is being talked to.

Maybe somebody who plays there

I think theres some hope there. Not sure it was nessecary to take a shot at Humphrey like that.

The shot should be directed at those reprobate Player Managers who think that a contract is merely a piece of paper with a list of suggestions rather that terms, and that they keep on telling their clients that. 🙄

IMO the way to do it is sort out both Walsh and Butters deals now, this off season, both very well compensated for the years ahead, (Walsh with captaincy), and the two of them team up and go hard with the knowledge that they can be the core of a midfield that can contend and go for flags

Just need enough to satisfy Port, in context of alternatively what they’d get next gear if they wait for free agency

Next year butters would be a $ bidding war with everyone involved and some other mob would come in over the top of us anyway

100% it’s a valid statement. Thoughts around signing your contract > walking when you think it’s fine needs to be drummed into players that it’s not in your hands for the agreed tenure.
Valid. But they're chasing Trac who is under contract. Also, he didn't need to say it. If they want Humphrey to stay long term better not to take shots at him through the media when he hasn't even requested a trade. Unless he is agitating behind the scenes more then we know.

They should start adding exit clauses in contracts. But if you opt for that the overall contract value is much lower.

So you can exit after two years of your 6 year contract, but lose various premiums in the contract. Like any rewards for performance etc.

Thats exactly my point. You can be the greatest coach in the world but if you don't have the list with the ability to execute plus the drive / leadership from the playing group you end up blowing bubbles.
Clarkson hasn't got the buy in from North / Voss has had albeit different but issues with this list in terms of availability / attitude / ability with us. Hence the changes being implemented being more list and football department rather than coach.
Could be yeah. My point was that he might struggle to reinvent footy again for their competitive edge. Let alone having a team like he did.

Or, or if a contract is over a certain size (years/salary) or in top x per cent of player contracts, and the player requests a trade, the club should have free reign on where they go to get the best trade value.
