Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

So what do Port get for Butters? You’d think Pick 2 would have to be on the equation and Charlie a part of that bit. Port are semi-reset.

Not quite.

Clarry was told he wasn't guaranteed a senior spot.

I'm more talking about Charlie in this type of instance.

"You want out? No problem. We're trading you to West Coast for Pick 1."

It's moreso about the player's ability to force a trade AND pick where they want to go. It's one or the other, and clubs should have all the power in a situation like this to go and get THE best deal they can possible for a player that wants out.
Yeh but that just swings the power way too far the other way so it will never happen.
ATM clubs can ask players to leave and players can ask clubs to leave and neither can get what they want without the other agreeing.

Butters will cost a fortune but imo a worthwhile one. Instantly puts us from deplorable rabble to somewhere to keep an eye on in the football landscape.

Players want to play with talents like Butters and Walsh and could drive us forward with our next iteration of the list build.
Would be an interesting midfield selection. Don't know if you can play all of:
Butters, Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewett, Lord, Smith, and natural or specific wingers.

Excuses like "rebuilding" "squad too young" "squad too old" are all BS. When a genuine top tier mid 20s player like Butters is available, you get him every day of the week no matter where the squad is at. The benefits go far beyond just on the field.

That sounds like a very frustrated club being put under pressure
Interesting that Gold Coast list boss Craig Cameron seemingly criticising GC Player Bailey Humphrey for possibly seeking a trade when he is contracted. If players should not investigate possible trade before expiry of contract, why have GC been talking to Charlie Curnow and Petracca?

It would be nice to land a Butters or Humphrey but I don't see how we can manage it while having enough draft capital for our father/sons, getting desperately needed depth pieces in the door and not blowing our plan to smooth out our cap and re-sign Walsh. I feel like both of them individually would cost more than what we get for Charlie.

If the List Management team can somehow manage it, it would be an extreme feat. I hope some supporters aren't pinning their hopes on landing a big fish and setting themselves up for disappointment.

If Charlie goes, I would be happy to see us walk away from the period with Dean, Ison, a pick before Dean's bid. A future pick to help the Cody bid, a good player in Hayward and then depth with Florent, Chesser, Reidy, Ainsworth and Buku.

We could still have a big crack at Butters via Free Agency next year if we have cap room and are looking on the up again.

For years we've been a decent side when the best 22 is fit, but a few injuries and we are left with no-one to plug gaps.

Our list management strategy is clearly in response to this - all about building depth rather than adding top line talent.

One thing's for sure - we're going to be completely loaded with fringe players in 2026.

But I'd like to see a few more players in the mix that are pushing for our best ~10.

This approach will definitely improve our floor, but I'm not sure it moves our ceiling at all.
Actually I do like this approach from the club and G.W. Absolutely no doubt at all to me, that our bottom 10 this season were the reason we

could not quiet match it with most teams. By replacing 4 or 5 of those with older, stronger bodies and some talent that makes each of these

acquisitions easily best 23. Will be happy enough if by the end of trading we have Reidy, Chesser, Buku and Ainsworth and maybe one other.

Thinking about the Walsh, Butters, Walker, Smith on ball brigade in 2027
