Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

People should get comfortable with Charlie moving.

He has little ability to think for himself and is pissed at our approach … mainly fuelled by his DH agent.

SDK to St Kilda is possible and would open up options for Charlie to end up Geelong which is his preference.

Saints also into De Geoy in a big way.
More likely Marshall for SDK.

I still don't see how Cats can get Curnow. Their picks this year and into the future just aren't valuable.

How on earth does SDK to St Kilda help Geelong land Charlie?

St Kilda's current draft hand is 50 + 65.
Geelong's current draft hand is 19 + 40 + 60 + 79.

Marshall and future first for SDK?
Geelong try to get Charlie for 19 + StK future first? We wouldn't even dignify them with a laugh before hanging up the phone.

If Charlie goes, it's Sydney for a few picks and players, or GC come to the party with Humphrey. Geelong have next to nothing to work with, other than players they don't want to trade or players we don't want.

What's the gap in valuation? Trade or contract? I would imagine the former.

Lock-down key defender with a n elite leap vs athletic medium defender/forward.
Hearing the gap was in trade.

Lock down defender frees up Weitering - I reckon we have enough medium defenders with Cowan. Carroll, Haynes, Kemp & McGovern plus Dean

Don’t they become free agents after 3 years? Furthermore who is going to want to burn a pick on a player with his heart set on another club.

Definitely risky but not as ridiculous as suggested.
Players don't become free agents until they've been at a club for 8 years unless they're delisted.

They will be done. Sitting waiting on pick changes and what may happen with Charlie and Ainsworth etc then it will all fall into place
Any word on an A-grade swap for Charlie or are we resigned to picks only (+ Buku and Chesser)?

Why would we be involved in any transaction that benefits saint kilda if the end result for us is astronomical?

Not sure which sport you're thinking of, but it's not AFL. 8 years of continuous service at one club to qualify for free agency. For example, even Mitch McGovern isn't a free agent - 3 years at the Crows, traded to Carlton, 7 seasons with us. He's now out of contract but not a free agent unless we delist him.

They're only contracted for 3 years as an early draft pick, and they could request a trade any time, but we'd have to cough up picks to satisfy their club or have them delist themselves when their contract ends and walk into the Pre-Season draft where anyone below us on the ladder could take them.

If we want them, we cough up in their draft year, not play games and hope to get them 3+ years later at a slight discount if the club who took them is willing to play nice.

Maybe he CAN train.

But he can't:
1. Play AFL quality football
2. Chase or apply pressure
3. Maintain AFL standards in fitness or behaviour
4. Hold a first 23 spot in one of the worst sides put on the field (early 2020s North Melbourne)

Also, I hate him.
He looked like a superstar early for Collingwood, then fell away quickly. Lots of off-field issues and he buckled under the pressure. Not sure how much, more how little, you can attribute to his time at North, it's no secret they've been a poorly run club for a while so that could be part of it in terms of the lack of structure to support him.

Some time off to sort out his issues, fall back in love with the game, then go to a club with better support framework he could be a decent value pick up as a SSP.

If Charlie is so “desperate” to get out why has he still not officially asked for a trade??
We've had Merrett basically giving his farewell speech at the B&F after some pretty spiteful words directed his way by fellow members of their leadership group, Petrecca and Oliver have formally requested trades and then Curnow, who hasn't said anything publicly nor been directly sighted meeting with other clubs. The small amount of public commentary from Cincotta (who had been delisted and could've unleashed) and Cripps merely stated they like(d) playing with Curnow and hope he stays.

I think the lack of request is absolutely a positive if a trade can't be reached; I'm looking forward to Merrett having to walk back into a very awkward locker room at Windy Hill.
