Adelaide v West Coast
Saturday 11 October
12:35pm
Norwood Oval

This week is our home Pride Round game, and for the first time, we'll host West Coast.

Our form is well and truly on the decline, with Sunday's humiliating defeat against Richmond hopefully a huge wake up call, while West Coast are on the rise. As a result, West Coast are higher on the ladder coming into this game.

What will we learn from last week's debacle?

Wow. For the Crows to be below West Coast on the ladder and just above St Kilda on percentage; oh how we have fallen. Crows might not even get a home final at this stage. They need to win the winnable games coming up against West Coast, Port and Freo.

Chelsea may miss again this week. It's a worry.

AFLW: Clarke provides update on Randall

'Adelaide AFLW Senior Coach Matthew Clarke has not ruled out a return for veteran Chelsea Randall this weekend, but concedes the star utility is likely to be sidelined for at least another week ...

“I don’t think it will be this week. As I said, today is another milestone for her, but I reckon we’d probably want to get a little bit more in before.”'

Geez, that will make it a month out. It's getting a little scary now.

I know she just signed a two-year contract, and we clearly still need her on-field, but surely we have to be considering whether it makes sense for Randall to continue playing at all? She's had a lot of concussions, and the way she plays I'd expect her to get at least another one or two over the next two seasons.

I think the AFL could well step in

One change after last game probably shows where the squad is at, at least it’s the right move though moving forward (I say this knowing they’ll probably just walk back this decision and yo-yo Thompson back in next week).

Hopefully Leuzzi gets more than 48% game time, from seeing her play she’s certainly the type that won’t die wondering at least on field.

I will be surprised if she gets as high as 48% game time. Although I'm probably being unfair, the club has mostly been good at giving all players at least 50% TOG this season.

Unfortunately in terms of changes, there isn't much for us to turn to, with Gould, Randall, Munyard and McKee all unavailable, and Ballard presumably buried in a landfill somewhere as far as the club is concerned. The only options are to turn to players who have already proved unable to meet the moment in Martin, Smith, Ewings and Cronin. The former two should be delisted this year, and Ewings was only just dropped for fitness last week.

Like it or not, our squad is what it is. We can make positional changes, but there's not much sitting in the cupboard.

At least for a change they could/should delist a fair few ‘limited’ players this year…

Hopefully! You'd have to think that they've drawn a line through Martin and Ballard. Mueller is probably playing for her career as well. I wonder if they'll give SLT one more year? I'd personally retain Ballard and Mueller before her, but who knows? Smith is an option as well.

With this weekend being our home Pride Game it’s also the marquee game for Rainbow Crows.

If you’re after some Rainbow Crows merchandise, they’ll have their marquee in front of the southern stand, with 20% off their clothing range. You can also sign up for a 2026 membership, which includes either a cooler bag or a cap (or sign up for a Diamond Membership and get both).

Also, Rainbow Crows is encouraging everyone to wear a touch of colour to the game. Let’s make Norwood Oval look fabulous.

There will also be the traditional pre-game Pride March.

Yeah Martin, Ballard & Smith the obvious ones gone (looking at list-management it’s quite crazy that Smith stayed on the list the last 2 seasons… and got games) along with Thompson who you hope pulls the pin this time round. Thompson being gifted a testimonial year probably encompasses where the team’s ruthlessness levels sat at this year.

Interesting you raise Mueller, made a comment last game about how hesitant she really is for every ball that travels her way, something really changed in her as a player from when she first started with showing lots of vigour and toughness to now wanting to sit back and not attack any ball that comes her way.

Would like to know though who’s making the choices for the future though, is Clarke having any say on these players futures even though he’s not going to be there? Or is Harper staying around and just singlehandedly making choices for the future of the list without coach input now?

I imagine due to the short turnaround with list lodgement post-season the new coach isn’t going to get any say and is just going to inherit what’s there.
