Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Sorry Chris, but Rowbottom would be a square peg in a round hole for Carlton.
Passing on him and Florent thanks mate 👍

This is true.

Especially given the issues we have now in having to expose Cooper Lord on a wing at times to be able to fit him into the same midfield as Cripps/Hewett. It’s the same reason we got rid of Kennedy.

Okay I’ve had a re-think.

I think our deal will be: Pick 11, F1 (2026), Hayward and Rowbottom.

Then with all of the spare cash we have, we go hard at McInerny as Free Agent next year.
Agree and if it’s this, we’ll be in a substantially better long term position than if we’d kept Charlie, JSOS and TDK, and maybe a comparable short term position.

Don’t hate the team with rowbottom, Ainsworth, McInerny and Khamis in there.

Neale kicked 44 goals this year.

Unproven commodity would be a term better used for someone like HOK.
Think about how crazy it is that Neale kicked 44 goals this year averaging 5 kicks per game. Extremely accurate kick for goal.

Would we be interested in Aleer we are extremely light on in defence ?
Could be a low cost bargain

Doesn’t sound like he’s on our radar but things can change quickly.
Reckon they’ll support Weitering next season with a mix of Haynes, Dean, Khamis and Young.

Possibly :
Saad Weitering Dean
Cowan Haynes Newman

Would like some more pace included if/when possible.

Perhaps going forward :
Wilson Weitering Dean
Cowan O’Farrell Chesser

If we trade up in the draft a player like Lindsay might be of interest.
Khamis can play off the new 5 man bench as a genuine swingman at either end where needed …

Dunno, I not convinced that a Charlie move will occur. Davies was pretty emphatic on radio yesterday. Voss was pretty emphatic in early September and equally Austin has stated he fully expects Charlie to be at Carlton in 2026. I get how the trade period works and how clubs communicate about players, the papers can write whatever they like and spin it however, if Carlton say no its no. For all we know, the board's position and directive could be the Swans can offer 3 first rounders, Gulden, Heeney, Lizzard and Hayward, but under no circumstances do we trade Charlie. I could of course be completely wrong, we'll know inside the 3-4 days.

If Rowbottom is happy to come to us, then he'd probably be happy to go to most VIC clubs. I'd be okay with flogging him off to someone else. Collingwood, who missed out on Oliver, could use him. Would they pay a 2026F1, maybe with something significant coming back their way? That would be amazing for us.

I would take him, not on the Saints contract and not for the 2nd rounder GWS want.

There’s a good player in there somewhere but honestly I’d prefer to take a punt on Ethan Phillips than to use capital on a player like Aleer who is no guarantee to make it. A Chesser type deal and why not.

There are so many different ways to tackle the issue. Current practice is client directed recovery. That is the client (Lij) knows what the best way for them is to recover. From this article it sounds like this is what our psychologist and the club tried to do earlier this year, but it wasn’t enough and they shifted tactics to something that is currently working better.
Whatever the outcome with Carlton I hope it works for him. And I hope he puts in the work. He needs to have and use his self directed recovery plan, and must maintain relationships with his support network.

Agree. IMO if we trade Charlie we have to accept the real possibility of a bottom 5/6 finish next year. I would keep him and see if the new additions plus injured players returning can help with improved system and delivery. No reason why Charlie can’t kick 70-80 goals for us next year.
Charlie clearly dosnt want to be at Carlton or he wouldn’t have seeked out another team in the middle of the year.
If we thought we could win the flag next year, by all means don’t trade him.
We now have the opportunity to use the assets we get for him to set the club up for our next tilt at the top 4 /flag.
Charlie has 4 maybe years left big maybe.
The picks we get could be at the club for the next 15-20 years.

It’s quite depressing knowing the lions and us were at same point in time not that long ago now look at them
Know one will come close to them for the next 5. Yrs they have the best young talent coming in and the seniors are topshelve they lose players and get good players in watch Oscar slot in seamlessly

Imagine if we landed the Dow, SPS, OBrien, Stocker, Philp picks. That’s the difference between the two in my view.

For all we know, the board's position and directive could be the Swans can offer 3 first rounders, Gulden, Heeney, Lizzard and Hayward, but under no circumstances do we trade Charlie. I could of course be completely wrong, we'll know inside the 3-4 days.
I think GW would trade the board if that was their position.. :D

As soon as we say anything different to that, we loose a lot of bargaining powe
