Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

It’s quite depressing knowing the lions and us were at same point in time not that long ago now look at them
Know one will come close to them for the next 5. Yrs they have the best young talent coming in and the seniors are topshelve they lose players and get good players in watch Oscar slot in seamlessly
I think their turning point was getting Lachie Neale in 2019, he’s been a gun for them. They just seemed to get better and better each year after that.

Doesn't work like that.

If we trade him, his contract with us is essentially torn up. Anything we have already paid him is gone. He then negotiates a new deal with Sydney for whatever.
The potential to vastly increase his current(allready imbursed front ended) contract is 90% behind Charlie and Robbie's little plan.

The pair of grubs have zero integrity.

If the Swans were to give up Hayward, Rowbottom and 2 1sts they would probably want a current or future 3rd with Curnow to aid with the academy prospects in the draft coming up.

Wouldn’t think this would be too much of a problem. For us it’s more that Rowbottom is a player we have similar types to. But obv it’s not BF doing the deal.

I’m a bit more upbeat than some here on Hayward thought. Really like his skill set for us.

As soon as we say anything different to that, we loose a lot of bargaining powe
Why would we need bargaining power, we are the one's who need to be satisfied. Bring top liners or p off and don't waste our time, rat managers starting what they can't finish.

Broadly happy with the way our trade period is trending Reidy is meh but reckon we got Cheeser and Ainsworth for unders. Khamis to come, hopefully get Hayward, a player not called Rowbottom plus picks for Curnow, and then Dean, Ison, and whoever else in the draft. Jagga to come back, Cody next year. Not too bad.

There are so many different ways to tackle the issue. Current practice is client directed recovery. That is the client (Lij) knows what the best way for them is to recover. From this article it sounds like this is what our psychologist and the club tried to do earlier this year, but it wasn’t enough and they shifted tactics to something that is currently working better.
Whatever the outcome with Carlton I hope it works for him. And I hope he puts in the work. He needs to have and use his self directed recovery plan, and must maintain relationships with his support network.
I think we need a new psychologist for starters. We have the mental fortitude of 5 year olds as a club. Time for a new team on that front.

If Rowbottom is happy to come to us, then he'd probably be happy to go to most VIC clubs. I'd be okay with flogging him off to someone else. Collingwood, who missed out on Oliver, could use him. Would they pay a 2026F1, maybe with something significant coming back their way? That would be amazing for us.

I’d love to get my hands on Collingwoods first next year .

One of these two clubs were allowed to be crap without media attention for 3-4 seasons; the other was in the spotlight constantly as the media tore strips off them. One of them was given an end of first round pick as part of their rebuild; the other was denied a priority pick. One of them was allowed to take not one but three father-son selections who would've been taken in the top ten, with one of those players being a dual Norm Smith medalist inside his first three seasons; the other has had the rules around father son selections modified just as they are about to get in similar quality.

One of these clubs gets the palm of the hand, the other the back.

Did I miss anything juicy? I can't read through the 30+ pages since yesterday morning.
Elijah has an article in the Age suggesting that he's good to go next year, that he's been training with the club, and is open to staying - wants to pay the club back for their support - if a trade does not occur.

very interesting that a lot of the footy pundits have been very positive about the Reidy acquisition. Corns , Brad Joshnson, couple others who are usually critical of our operations .
Low risk, cheap and what we need. Good business. Ruckmen are a dime a dozen.

Don’t need to be anything special. With the greatest of respect, Darcy Fort wouldn’t be in the top 400 players in the league.

And now he’s a two time premiership ruckman.

Sure. But if it’s straight nonsense, clubs will find out and it will be worse for him.
Yeah, but we starting to become a football club 1st again!

We will be & would have offered all the support we could, happy to try and get some value for him.
He gets his shit sorted he’s a good footballer

well aware what he kicked but he's their #2 target.... in a very strong team.

As the #1 target, in a weaker team.... meh.
Geelong aren't desperate enough and play tight arse.
They also have Ollie Henry

2023- 41 Goals
2024 - 37
2025 - 14 (15 games)

I thought Ollie was looking like he'd be a Star at Collingwood and surprised they let him go.
I guess after Hawkins and Cameron ... you need to make a bigger impact to be embraced by Geelong
Neale is an awesome unit .. and will be interesting to see how he develops

Cats will be sniffing around next season and may have a better hand to play for Charlie?

Rea

It’s cute. These hypothetical trades where we get some slightly above average positional players or “first round picks” in name only.

None come close to replacing one of the few players that can actually turn a game on its head on their own.

I am far more miffed at how the forward line operated and how the ball was delivered than I am at any perceived notions of disloyalty, after how the club has “stood by him” over the years. We paid him cause he’s a generational talent. I mean we pulled one over the rest of league by drafting him at 12 ffs.

He probably is getting traded and the sky won’t be falling, but I’m not seeing his exit as a panacea for what went wrong this year.
I’m more miffed at Charlie’s lack of forward craft or efforts instead we had a lazy Charlie waiting for Joe the goose over the back towards goal or chest marks outside 50 that he normally did his play on nonsense. The other 70% was just standing under a high ball with little effort.

You know he was injured all year and had no preseason right, he'd never had those issues before, would have been incredibly frustrating playing injured, to go with the diabolical game plan and ball movement.
Curnow was never the problem but something else is down there.
He was a symptom of the real problem

Surely the lads are pissed off with Charlie .. I don’t know him obviously but just seems too far gone to return
Checked out a long time ago
I just want him and his half arsed efforts gone….
And to Sydney … I could handle that but I couldn’t handle him going to those F wits with the hoops

Clean slate, new recruits, new attitudes and new ruthlessness amongst the whole playing group with a common goal

I think it says a lot that a group of his teammates, some of whom live 100m or so from his house, are doing park training as a group and he's off with Bailey Smith.

Mates and teammates aren't always the same thing but Curnow wants out and frankly I can't see him ever being a contributor to changing the culture.

I can see him coming back and doing another 2025 type season.
