Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Agree with your sentiment Matty.

Still annoys me that a dh like Curnow was happy to sign a six year extension two years ago, and now wants out.

Why didn’t he just sign a two year extension that would have taken him to the FA stage, he would have had clubs queuing up for his services - imagine what the Saints would have offered him!
Oh, totally. Im livid with Charlie, his mgmt and annoyed at the trend of signing long term contracts then turning around after one or two years and wanting to leave. Player power and AFLPA is out of control.

Dunno, I not convinced that a Charlie move will occur. Davies was pretty emphatic on radio yesterday. Voss was pretty emphatic in early September and equally Austin has stated he fully expects Charlie to be at Carlton in 2026. I get how the trade period works and how clubs communicate about players, the papers can write whatever they like and spin it however, if Carlton say no its no. For all we know, the board's position and directive could be the Swans can offer 3 first rounders, Gulden, Heeney, Lizzard and Hayward, but under no circumstances do we trade Charlie. I could of course be completely wrong, we'll know inside the 3-4 days.
Knowing our club it would be so 20k water bottles aren’t wasted

One of these two clubs were allowed to be crap without media attention for 3-4 seasons; the other was in the spotlight constantly as the media tore strips off them. One of them was given an end of first round pick as part of their rebuild; the other was denied a priority pick. One of them was allowed to take not one but three father-son selections who would've been taken in the top ten, with one of those players being a dual Norm Smith medalist inside his first three seasons; the other has had the rules around father son selections modified just as they are about to get in similar quality.

One of these clubs gets the palm of the hand, the other the back.
if think one is really well run and ours has been a tinder box for years.

Prefer Florent over Rowbottom. At least Florent addresses an area of need. Rowbottom may be the better player but we don't need another slow inside mid.

Florent can be picked up for a middling pick. He would hold no value in a Charlie trade. Rowbottom, yes we have players like him but he is very good and we would find a spot for him in our best 22 quite easily.

I don't think we are in the position to turn away best 22 quality that wants to play for us.

Hayward, McDonald, Rowbottom, Campbell, Dattoli, Papley, Florent; would be my order of the players rumoured to be expendable.

There was a post on the Swans board saying there is a rumour that Rowbottom has done a medical at GC.

Well said

It’s quite depressing knowing the lions and us were at same point in time not that long ago now look at them
Know one will come close to them for the next 5. Yrs they have the best young talent coming in and the seniors are topshelve they lose players and get good players in watch Oscar slot in seamlessly

They are a well run club that's for sure.

Though I can't help but feel we'd be in a better position if we had an Andrews, 2 x Ashcrofts, a Fletcher, a Hipwood, a Coleman, a Payne and a Marshall on our list. All developed for Brisbane and picked for relative peanuts.

Not to mention the first round priority pick and hand picked AFL coaches they got when both clubs were in the rebuilding stage.

I would be confident in saying their dominance will last longer than 5 years. One of the best lists ever assembled imo.

EDIT: Didn't see Gethelred post along the same lines, spot on.

The potential to vastly increase his current(allready imbursed front ended) contract is 90% behind Charlie and Robbie's little plan.

The pair of grubs have zero integrit

You know he was injured all year and had no preseason right, he'd never had those issues before, would have been incredibly frustrating playing injured, to go with the diabolical game plan and ball movement.
Curnow was never the problem but something else is down there.
He was a symptom of the real problem
Na I’m thinking right Back to prelim not only this year, have a genuine think about where a lot of his goals came from including his best years.
Don’t get me wrong I loved Charlie and even registered my Kelpies name as Charlie Curnow

The media described Mackie's pathetic effort as bombshell, so not expecting to be blown away.

I'll take a stab at 25F, 26F, 26S and Hayward.

26S goes to Khamis who we have committed to, rather than throw in another swans player that doesn't really want to move.

“But Charlie Curnow doesn’t want to play for Geelong because we’ve told him he doesn’t want to play for Geelong. He has no say in the matter.” should be the response to whatever crappy deal Mackie offers up.

Hard to kick goals when the team regulary s### the bed in big games though, if he goes we will see the difference most likely when he goes into a proper system with real coaches. Never got the feeling he couldn't be a big game player when not injured.

I’m more miffed at Charlie’s lack of forward craft or efforts instead we had a lazy Charlie waiting for Joe the goose over the back towards goal or chest marks outside 50 that he normally did his play on nonsense. The other 70% was just standing under a high ball with little effort.
If they keep kicking high balls in without kicking it to CC's advantage, what else is he supposed to do. Amount of crashes he has copped due to being tag-teamed by the opposition and we still cannot find a 'free' forward in space....

I think temper expectations...

An offer that would "blow Carlton away" is something like Gulden + F1.

Obviously won't happen...

They will approach with a reasonable offer and if we can use what we get from them to make more moves to improve our draft hand this year and next, as well as add a reliable player, we'll probably do it.
Won’t it?

I'd offer 10 and 11 to GC for Humphrey and 18. Sounds like unders for GC, but enables them to get Trac, uwlwand and patterson, maybe Rowbottom sweetens the deal

Would prefer Campbell to Rowbottom.

One season sample size?

Yeah, he was frustrating to watch all year. But if I’m going to be making the most pivotal trade the clubs had in over 15 years, I’m probably not going to use the season from hell to assess how he performs on the field.

Rowbottom to GC could be what gets it done.
Maybe something like:

Carlton give: Pick 10, Curnow, ‘27 F3
Carlton get: Pick 15 (GC), Pick 32 (GC), Pick 36 (SYD), F1 (SYD), F1 (GC), Hayward

Sydney give: Pick 11, Hayward, Rowbottom, F1, Pick 36
Sydney get: Curnow, Pick 29 (GC), Carlton F3 (27)

GC give: F1, Pick 32, Pick 29
GC get: Rowbottom, pick 10

GC get points for this year as well (pick 10 is about ~300 more than 29 + 32). Sydney give up what has been proposed on here already, with an upgrade of seconds and an extra 3rd going back.

Leaves us with 15, 22, 32, 36 able to match bids worth 2,381 which is plenty for Dean/Ison and 3 1sts next year.

Some might want more for us but ticks most of our boxes and sets us up so well for next year and Cody. We could always trade back into this year with one of those futures if there’s someone we really like.

All this.
But perhaps more importantly they’ve had a proper Head of Footy, and have built a good culture.

This has been our biggest issue, our list was good enough talent wise.
