Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

I just can’t imagine that Sydney is going to offer pick 9, Will Hayward, F1. That’s been rumoured for weeks and I imagine that Carlton has already given Sydney feedback on that.

The problem I see is that pick 9 is not particularly valuable for Carlton. It would get eaten up in a bid for TDK and I think Carlton would much prefer to bring in someone with some experience.

I feel like something must be brewing behind the scenes with a 3rd club. I know all the mail regarding Humphrey is that he won’t be traded, but I wonder if Sydney offers Rowbottom and Pick 9 to Gold Coast for Humphrey, with Carlton then receiving Humphrey, Hayward and Sydney’s F1.

I feel like that would get the deal done.

Both pick 10 and 11 (ours and Sydney's) will be elsewhere by the draft.

Remember that pick trading can be done after trade period.

Some deal like 10 and 11 for a future 1st and a couple of second rounders to secure Dean and Ison seems likely

Imo, I think Humphrey is definitely trying to get home this trade period. Whether or not someone can satisfy gc on a trade is another thing. And also, who does he want to get to? Or, is he happy enough to just get to whom ever can satisfy gc in the best deal?

Honestly hesitant to burn something like pick 2 on either even in this draft.

Reid has so much to prove with his running capacity given he's opted to turn himself into pretty heavy athlete, and Butters is slippery and smart but doesn't really move the needle in terms of explosive athleticism, goes close consistently though, which is an elite trait in of itself.

Definitely would lean towards Reid though, but he is not exactly a smart footballer.

Oh, totally. Im livid with Charlie, his mgmt and annoyed at the trend of signing long term contracts then turning around after one or two years and wanting to leave. Player power and AFLPA is out of control.

Even more so if/when those contracts are front loaded

Definitely, over time their recruiting has proven to be top class, along with A-grade F/S selections under the old rules.

At the time I remember a lot of comparisons being made between Carlton and Brisbane both going through rebuild periods. But I can remember when Lachie Neale joined them in 2019 it was a game changer for them.

But as you say after 2019 their recruitment hardly missed a beat and was topped off with the Ashcroft selections.

In contrast, our recruitment at the same time was abysmal under SOS and we are where we are because of it. I feel like it’s getting back on track and hopefully we’ll look back and say GW, Harry Dean, Jagga and Cody were our turning point.

I don’t rate my knowledge of players or their value very highly and have said from the moment that Sydney were involved in the Charlie trade that I would settle for R1, F1, Hayward and McInerney if both players were happy to move.

In the back of my mind though I do feel we need to plan for the future and need a young KPF. So if Rowbottom has done a medical at GC and syd are trying to obtain a pick ( doubt gc want to give picks) or a player to help with Charlie and GC are determined to keep Humphrey, I hope Walter is keen to come to us.
