Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I suspect we'll be trading a couple of players for picks.

We need the points. Gov, Acres, Binns, Fogarty... sides like WC and North might want to send a 3rd rounder back.

If the Charlie deal goes as follows:

Curnow + F3 + 27F2

#11 + F1(Swans) + F1(Pies) + Hayward

Then the ideal scenarios are:

  1. 10 + 11

    GCS: Humphrey

  2. 10 + 11

    North/Demons: F1 + #46/#42

  3. 10 + 11

    Ess: 6 + 21

(1) - Obviously gets us a player that fits perfectly. The most ideal outcome.
(2) - A very high pick in next year's draft. Can be used for trade capital for a gun player or take it to the draft to match Cody. It will then cause our top pick next year to only get pushed back a few spots so we still draft a gun (likely better than any pick we get this year)
(3) - Move up before a Dean bid and fully cover any costs for said bid with 21 + 22

Re scenario 1

Would we be happy with either Humphrey or Walter for 10 & 11 ?

Humphrey projects as a gun no doubt but Walter would really balance out the forward line and we will have already added Hayward and Ainsworth around the flanks along with Williams, Moir and Motlop …

Hayward Walter Ainsworth
Williams McKay … Moir/Motlop/Kemp

Warner a bit undervalued in this proposal for mine, but it’s always hard to make 4+ team trades where everyone looks like a winner
WCE send pick 13 to Sydney, Sydney send pick 32 back to them?

I am guessing if a trade gets done then it's going to be a big one with multiple clubs involved similar to what I mentioned.

End of the day, when fit he is the best goal kicker in the game and he has 4 years on his contract and there is no strong reason why Carlton would want to trade him so it's going to be a scenario where we come out big winners.

I am expecting three players come in who immediately fill spots of need, have youth on their side and are potential high level. To me Walter, Humphry, Walker satisfies me for Curnow. Hell if we could squeeze a little extra then we do it but that works extremely well if those young players turn out alright.

Heard at the races yesterday:

Sydney (& by extension D’Orazio) reluctant to trade any of their A-graders including Hayward. They’re working on players from other clubs that will satisfy Carlton.

One can only assume that might be the likes of Humphrey and/or Walter. Zane Duursma name was mentioned also.
Why would D’Orazio (flog) be reluctant to trade any Sydney players? He doesn’t work for Sydney???

2 points that I have noticed in this thread the last week that I find fascinating.

1. The love for Lord. It seems he is in most people's best 23. With an influx of new talent, Jagga coming back, are you sure he fits in so easily? There may be a path to his spot in the 23, but I think a lot of people will be disappointed come round 1. He showed some promise this year, but I think it's a case of what you want to happen rather than the practical side of team balance.

Mind you, there shouldn't be a free pass to any new recruit, but we know that generally when you trade for new players, they play regardless of their pre-season.

2. The thought that Khamis is a lock at CHB. Do we even know if he is playing as a defender? Be careful to give the keys to a guy with little experience and who is severely undersized. CHB will either be Young or maybe a mature aged player we pick as a rookie or late in the draft (if we go that path). Personally, I assumed Khamis would either play forward or be more of a medium defender (Haynes type).

Any Khamis fans out there that can put together a case for him to be our next CHB?
1. I’ll take Lord everyday game 1 of the season.
Midfield needs an update and change, he’s part of the future.

George winning the B&F is an indictment on the club, he’s a good honest footballer but best for the club shows how bad we were & far we fell.

In a heart beat... edited...miss read, I thought it read both for pick 10&11

If you can trade rowbottom for another late first to mid second it’s a deal but we are taking JR.

Would be nice if the Swans can get the Pies to hand over their F1 for Rowbottom and Buller

11 + 32 + Swans F1 + Pies F1 + Hayward
for
Charlie + 20 + F3

Values Charlie at around 2 + Hayward according to DVI. 32 goes to Doggies for Khamis. Leaves us with 10+11 for Dean and 3 future firsts for Walker.

Reads like a nuffy deal but that’s the type of overs the Swans should expect to pay. They knew what they were getting into.

I have zero interest in Khamis for pick 32 even with the weak nature of this draft, if the Dogs get that out of us we should pack up and move to the VAFA.

Every chance he just walks to the PSD at this point I’d think.

He is contracted so there will be no PSD.

25 year old KPP/third tall, covers both ends, who they have no issue in holding onto for another year.

32 in a weaker draft is not horrible. It’s overs but we can’t have it both ways. Carlton has chased him and will make sure it gets done.

Yep, for some reason I assumed he was uncontracted and Dogs gave him an offer he turned down.

If we can pull it all off, trade Curnow, put together a forward line of Humphrey Walter Ainsworth Moir McKay Kemp Motlop Williams etc. Top the midfield off next year with Butters as a FA and Walker and we really put our hammer down for a flag tilt in 2027 onwards. This is how I see it. I am not on board with the "our list is crap" "full rebuild" crew. I think our list is good but at a crossroads where we can really make some big decisions and put together a gun side or we can make minimal change and go the other way.

Build a team for 2027.

Newman Weitering Carroll
Wilson O'Farrell Cowan
Chesser Cripps Smith
Ainsworth Walter Moir
Kemp McKay Humphrey
O'Keeffe Butters Walsh
Dean Walker Hewett Cerra
Motlop Hollands Williams Lord B Camporeale Evans Ready etc

I would expect that squad to be one of the flag favourites.

Should have loads of cap space. Curnow traded should mean we have plenty incoming. Landing a few smaller forwards and having guys who can go through there like Smith, Walker, Chesser etc means we can finally have the big clean out of small forwards I have been talking about for a few years. It all opens up cap space.

You can see from the below list that our ability to open up cap space should be really strong so free agents are on the cards for us.

Think big, win big prizes.

Possibly Outgoing player list for the next few seasons I expect will be:

Gone
Docherty, Silvagni, DeKoning, Fantasia, Cincotta, Durdin, Lemmy

Very Likely gone
Curnow, McGovern, E Hollands

Likely
Fogarty, Acres, Binns, Monahan, Duffy, Boyd, White, Evans, L Young, Cottrell

Maybe
Williams, L Camporeale, Newman, Haynes, Saad, F Young, Pittonet

Trade potential

Cerra, O Hollands, Motlop

So IMO we have an opportunity to open up our cap and really create a top side.

Butters will be matched by Port, so we would have to trade for him and it is unlikely have the draft capital. I don't think Suns will be trading Walter given it looks like King might go as a FA next year.

I’m loving the talk of turning Curnow into Humphrey AND Walter

Tell me (a) how we do it with the assets we have, (b) why GCS would let it happen

I wonder how we could potentially trade for Butters F1st then we would have to move on a player who could bring another first round pick in.

King could go, will depend on whether they think he will or not.

Could they match our offer? I am expecting our cap to be extremely open. Would we be willing to go big though?
