Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Just went for a stroll on the other boards. Syd board seem very divided on how the likes of Rowbottom, Florent and Hayward departing maybe will affect relationships and it’s team. Cats board just seem like they are entitled and like it’s absurd for us to ask for what we want. Stark differences in attitude.

It’s quite simple really. He’s contracted for 4 years. 2 time Coleman medalist recently. Doesn’t matter if he’s 29 or 23. Actually, lucky he’s not 23 because we’d be asking for the world. He hasn’t requested a team to go to specifically. So guess what? Best offer that meets our needs will see him in your colours. Cats fans are the ones finding it difficult to understand tbh lol. You gotta laugh. I really do hope we strike a deal with the Swans and it works

Cats fans are right up there as the dumbest supporter base...

How do they fit all of King, Reid, JUH, and Walter into that forward line? Even if they decide to play Read as the ruck (which they haven't done yet since they have Witts still going strong).. something has to give. I think Walter would see JUH coming in and be open to a trade. I mean he wasn't even being picked late in the year without him.
Plus they have Moyle waiting to be Witt’s replacement

I’d be happy to take Florent.

Players fall out of favour under new coaches all time and before this year he seemed a player of reasonable quality.
Him and Cox may not see eye to eye and it may have affected his footy. Who could say.

Saad, Newman and Haynes are getting on and all 3 may be in their final seasons, then the next crop of Cowan, O’Farrell, Matt Carroll and Dean are young back there.

He would fill a need for in age bracket and at half back in my opinion anyway.

Florent would be an upgrade on Saad for me next year. Not sure I'd have Newman in my best team either in 2026.

Florent is a liability to Swans due to his contract. It seems he will only play when they are hit with injuries. Cox not a fan. Ideal pick up for Richmond or Kangaroos.

I watched him play quite closely late in the year - as he's been a trade target. He was awful. Weak defensively - which is a big no no for the Swans. 4 years left on a decent contract too.

At this point he'd be a salary cap dump for them regardless of Curnow. He may still have some interest but it would be north or WC I'd imagine.

JUH no guarantee to be playing AFL next year, or beyond. Let’s see if the commitment/want is there firstly..and discipline.

I'm all for second chances. Even third chances.

But I suspect that what has happened here is that Elijah was given a "last warning" and then transgressed again.

You can't then give him another chance. It undermines the lesson.

"Last chance, screw up again and you're out!"
"Oh OK...just one more you cheeky rascal, but this time we mean it!"

Once you prove the threat to be hollow, it no longer holds any weight. If nobody else wants him, I'd consider a VFL contract and if he stays squeaky clean for 12 months then maybe a rookie lifeline for 2027. But right now, if the ultimatum was set then for his sake and ours we should abide by it. Support doesn't always mean giving more chances, sometimes it's about consistency and consequences to help the person learn.
The fact is, none of us really knows what's gone on behind the scenes. The club will make its decision, and we have to trust the people who are now in charge to make the right one.

Unfortunately that’s not the way it works. Charlie has to agree to the trade. It’s actually a blessing that he is open to three clubs and two are going to get into an all out bidding war come Wednesday afternoon.

Clubs in our position generally don’t get that leverage.

We've created that leverage because we have told him and his management we simply won't trade him unless we get a crazy good deal and he knows we aren't bluffing with that. Kind of removes his ability to nominate a club if he's desperate to get out so he's open to a few clubs. But yes, it definitely has strengthened our position.

Finished 3rd in this year’s b&f………..
Don't let the facts get in the way of a good negative narrative. Cerra showed no commitment all year long; that's why the coaches voted for him.

Add the fact the Doggies- the team most desperate for a tall defender - put a line through his name, says a lot. The filth too it seems and they chased hard after JSOS.

Apart from the Roos, there seems to be no interest from other clubs, which I think is instructive.
Or wait to the last minute to see how desperate MFC would be to offload..

Four years on a contract says if he's not happy with the outcome he stays. He's indicated Sydney or Geelong. If they don't stump up terms he's happy with, that's his problem.

I think it's about Sydney wanting to get other team's players to us for Curnow. I don't think we really want what they are offering, a little interest in Florent is believable, but is he really good enough and young enough to be a part of a big player trade like this?

I think it has to be GCS. They need top end picks if they want to fit in their academy players AND Petracca. Could be other clubs, will be interesting.

I get the impression we are playing it cool, let these other clubs do the hard work and wait for a result.

His preferred destination is going to get shut down (hopefully).

Either that or he stays. Would hope that we’ve kept the contract $’s as signed too.

Spot on re Aleer.

I think some people here seem to just look at the cash he was offered by the Saints, and the fact he’s an ‘athletic tall defender’ in a nice age bracket and think he’s the answer to our prayers.

I’d say he will be delisted within the next 4 years

Wouldn't you say considering he has done the medicals at both sides, there is a better indication of him leaving and both teams working hard to see what players they can bundle before ultimate deadline?
Possibly but will be up to Wright & co in the end, can just see it falling through given it might require clubs to force players out against their wishes.
