Not sure if this is possible, but HYPOTHETICALLY, if we had pick 10 still and a bid came at say 5 on draft night, could we live trade out of 10 back to say 20, 35 and a future 2nd if we can find a willing team? Means we keep some value for 10 but use lower picks to get Dean. The picks are made up numbers before anyone corrects me on the value of them.

Yes, you can trade your picks out while you're on the clock. Clubs would have a contingency like that lined up - fairly sure that we had something planned if a bid for Ben Campo came in before the pick we used for HoF.
That being said, clubs have a pretty reasonable idea of how the Top 10 is going to shake out. If we strongly suspect that a bid will come in before our pick, then we would trade it away before the draft. * did this last year - pretty sure Melbourne was going to bid on Kako, so they traded the pick to Melbourne before the draft.

Honestly, in a good draft with a number of other quality defenders coming through, he would be in the 15-25 range any day of the week. Possibly even sliding to 30. The only reason he's being spoken about as a top 10 pick is because of the dearth of key defenders in this draft.
Based on what? How many games of CTL and 18s did u watch this year ?

Dean was outstanding this season and would stack up well against other top end KPDs from previous years from everything that I watched.

Someone who works in the system who I respect highly told me he's no less of a player than Connor O'Sullivan who came through the same program and went 11 in what looks to have been a strong draft in 2023.

Yes. He stacks up well against other top KPDs from pervious years. How many top end defenders are there in this years draft apart from Dean? If there were other top end defenders in this draft, they would talking about them as well. If there were more top end defenders this year, where would Dean sit? This year is incredibly shallow for top end talent that isn't academy tied, so Dean rises up the ranks as about the only top end defender this year.

If Dean was in last years draft, where would he go? Top 10 or would he be in the 15-25 range as I said?

I watched a couple of CTL and u18s games this year. Mostly to see Cody and Dean when thye played and to catch sight of Ison and Gresh. I also watched a couple of VFL games to keep track of how Darcy Hogg is going so I could get an idea of where his little brother, Archer, is going to sit in the draft (he isn't but Darcy might make it onto our list as a mature aged F/S rookie).

So, at the end of the day. Do I rate Dean... hell yeah, the kids gonna be a star like his old man. Do I think that he is overvalued because of a shallow draft, hell yeah. Would I be upset of we matched a bid in the top 10 for him? Nope. Once again, he's worth it, but because of the lack of competition from other top end KPDs, he's overvalued. If he slide to pick 15, would I be upset? **** no... because in a normal draft with a couple more top end KPDs available, that's the bottom end of the range I would expect him to be in.

I'd have them about on on par as prospects. O'Sullivan is a better user of the footy and probably has more flexibility to his game but Harry is definitely a better defender in terms of locking down an opponent and stopping the ball coming in.

Does anyone know with the new rules coming in whether it’s an option to go into a points deficit for Cody Walker?

Thoughts are that it could be easier going into deficit for 2027 when our first pick is likely to be in the teens or twenties after the Tasmania concessions which would mean a largely ineffective slide in 2027.

Surely this would be a factor when it comes to trading Curnow or trading our current 2025 draft hand into 2026.

Sounds like 2026 draft picks are currently much more valuable than 2025 or 2027.

Which is an absolute disgrace, even more disgraceful is why the meedya are not all over it and asking questions. It’s an absolute pivotal part of the whole trade and draft process ffs
How on god's earth can they now announce changes for 2026 when the trade period is almost done and dusted???

I think we've had more trades than any other club - with at least another 2 pending - but we will be the club most affected by the rule changes. How the **** can you complete a suite of trades if you don't know what changes they're planning. The horse has bolted and half way down the road.

Now if it was Geelong that was going to be most affected.....

I wouldn’t get too upset.
The fact that no major announcements regarding 2026 have been made prior to this year’s trade period suggests that minimal changes are planned (for next year anyway).

I see it as a positive that we’ve heard nothing from the AFL.
I agree, but it isn't definitive.

AFL messaged to the public there would be changed, and very well could have told the clubs the exact changes privately prior to the trade period commencing.

Waiting until after to announce to the public isn't as bad if they also say clubs were already told.

Surely if the AFL had told all the clubs about it a week ago it would have leaked by now.
They would have leaked it themselves.

If they'd already been told I highly doubt Davies would've been making statements of this nature last Monday.

So if it's our turn to pick a player and Dean hasn't been selected yet, do we Select Dean? Or do we select another player and use our next few picks to match a bid for Dean if it comes after our 1st pick?
