Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

From where I sit right now, the worst-case scenario in terms of the offer from Sydney looks like Pick 11, F1, Hayward, and Florent.

However, I’m more interested in what our plans are for Picks 10 and 11, especially with the Harry Dean and Jack Ison implications in play.

I can’t see us heading to the draft holding both of those picks and I’d expect one of the following to happen:
  • Trade up to secure a pick before likely bid territory (unlikely)
  • Trade out for future capital in 2026 (likely)
  • Trade for a mature player to help sell the Charlie deal to the members and media etc (very likely).
I still wouldn't be surprised if we just took one player in the trade - hopefully Hayward - and ask for pick 32 instead.

That pick would potentially cover the Ison bid.

Trade with NM.
10 + 11 for F1, 25, 26.

Should be enough points for both Dean and Ison (along with the 22 we already have), and a good extra pick for Cody next year.

North then get the opportunity to use those picks to trade up, as they don't have an early pick this year.
Similar trade could be done with the Demons

Depends - how many picks will wc take to the draft?

2 + 34 +41 + 51 -> 10+11+2027 future 3rd? Perhaps with 22+54 that is enough?

Still leaves wc with 4 picks in the first 15 - can’t see them taking much more beyond that…

Of course that assumes we don’t pick up Khamis- don’t know enough about the player but from the sounds of it he has been a back up kpd - the dogs asking price seems a bit steep?
I know a fella, mad Bulldogs supporter who told me that Buku was an athletic freak. Also said he was better up forward, than down back.

He is unhappy about the prospect of losing him and said that we are getting an under-rated talent. This bloke knows his players very well.

25 and 26 won't get Dean if the bid comes anywhere near his draft ranking.

Personally I think we need to move away from this as a club.

The "messiah" marketing dates back so far now and it's gotten us nowhere.

Mentality of our entire club needs to change, particularly with the supporter base, re: going chips in on a superstar to pull us from the rubble.

Spot on. I think this is really close to one of our biggest issues as a club and supporter base. It's been prevalent in all commentary around the Blues for ages - the so-called "star-studded list" that can't and hasn't won shit.

It's the old "the best players play at Carlton" and "nobody leaves Carlton" mindset. It used to be true and it used to work but those days are GONE.

Whole of club mentality required, not building around or for specific individuals. We don't need someone to "play with Cripps" or "help out Weitering" - we need a full 18, 23, list and club that is on the same page, operates in a disciplined and effective manner and delivers on-field. It doesn't matter who they are or where they come from.

I can't wait for Charlie to get the medical done and Sydney say "oh boy... yeah... no thanks" and we're left with his bung knees and ankles.
Apparently he’s already done medicals at both Sydney and Geelong.

I'm not sure people have got their heads around how tight the AFL have made this.

100% this.
Here's a bit of an explainer:

And for us with Ison (and other players rated towards the back half of the 2nd Round), there is a massive difference between being bid on by #36, or from #37 on.
A bid at #36 requires 233 points to match (317-84).
You can match that with any pick from #37-40. To do it with the latest possible 2 picks you need #46 + #48.

Whereas if they make it to #37, it's just whatever your next pick is, you could match with a pick in the 70s.

khamis i reckon
Forgot about him. Yep, that'd probably be more likely.

So we'd basically be getting Hayward, Khamis, and their two 1st rounders through that trade scenario.

As a side note, I'm still a bit confused about our interest in Khamis. Dogs supporters will tell you he's not much chop as a defender, hence why he was running around in the magoos the end of last season while they were screaming for a tall defender. I can only assume we're bringing him in as a marking option up forward when Charlie departs.

Just to remind people about the new points system. We can use as many picks as we want this year, but next year we can only use 2 picks. For both years, the discount for f/s and academy players is now only 10%.

This is last year's vs this year's points value. The difference is huge. Remember, currently Dean is ranked at Pick 6 this year, and Walker is ranked top 3 next year. We can't just pluck late picks out of our bums for these guys like teams could previously.

We are not used to having highly ranked father/sons. It's a whole new ball game.

The current model below is last year and the new model is what we are working with now.
