Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

We can pay for a realistic Dean bid with current picks, but not if we trade 10 and 11 out. I couldn't care less about trading up in this draft. None of the prospects would have gone top 6 in last year's draft so all early picks are overpaying in a sense.

Established player or keep one, trade one for mine. Also have to get Buku done.

In my view, it’d be a bad strategic look for the club if they were seen to “waste” the TDK comp along with part of the Charlie bounty on matching F/S and academy bids, especially when they should rightfully be ours anyway.

The club needs to come out of this looking like clear winners in the eyes of the public and that only happens if we bring in a genuine best-22, plug-and-play player (on top of the rest of the haul).

Fans and the media are fickle - they want a visible win.

I’m sure we can find a way to match the bids with later picks if needed.

This is what I’d do;

1. Sell pick 10 and a 3rd rounder (this years or next) for a late first and future first (happy to give pick 10 pick to Geelong for their 2025/2026 first round picks). Geelong can then use Pick 10 and a few pick swaps for Marshall.

2. Get Sydney's 2025 & 2026 First round picks, Campbell and (Hayward if possible) for Charlie.

Leaves us with 3 first round picks for 2026 and and 2 late first rounders for 2025 which will give us enough points for Dean.

Next year we gain Cody another first rounder.
Think u forgot about Sydney’s pick 11, don’t need 3 first to match points for dean

Depends - how many picks will wc take to the draft?

2 + 34 +41 + 51 -> 10+11+2027 future 3rd? Perhaps with 22+54 that is enough?

Still leaves wc with 4 picks in the first 15 - can’t see them taking much more beyond that…

Of course that assumes we don’t pick up Khamis- don’t know enough about the player but from the sounds of it he has been a back up kpd - the dogs asking price seems a bit steep?

Later picks hold FA value now remember? Next year, we may have to use 2 picks only to match a bid on Cody.

These are realistic scenarios with actual points and ramifications attached. We will look sillier if we lose those father/sons because we hoped something would come up. They are conditionally attached to us at the moment and we are not just entitled to them like before.

If we want to do something else with those picks, we need to create the value now, not when we are desperate and don't hold the whip handle.

Not a heap of value in Acres and McGovern types now.

From where I sit right now, the worst-case scenario in terms of the offer from Sydney looks like Pick 11, F1, Hayward, and Florent.

However, I’m more interested in what our plans are for Picks 10 and 11, especially with the Harry Dean and Jack Ison implications in play.

I can’t see us heading to the draft holding both of those picks and I’d expect one of the following to happen:
  • Trade up to secure a pick before likely bid territory (unlikely)
  • Trade out for future capital in 2026 (likely)
  • Trade for a mature player to help sell the Charlie deal to the members and media etc (very likely).
Trade with NM.
10 + 11 for F1, 25, 26.

Should be enough points for both Dean and Ison (along with the 22 we already have), and a good extra pick for Cody next year.

North then get the opportunity to use those picks to trade up, as they don't have an early pick this year.

There is absolutely more movement from Austin after the Charlie deal goes down, which is why I think we're about to get some big news dropping on this very, very soon.

Will need more time to get post-Charlie deals done with 10 and 11 than just Wednesday arvo you'd think.

If we already have 2 1sts for next year, that should be enough for Walker with no rule changes.

I would trade out 11 for a suite of 2nd and 3rd rounders. e.g essendon 21,27, 30 with something going back or melb 24, 28, 40, nth 25, 26,46 another option (note I havent done the math)

With these picks and 22 we more than cover off Dean and Ison.

We could go shopping with pick 10, although it could be too late to find a player to justify that pick. We could hold and hope Dean is not bid on and pick another kid this year, or trade it out live for a pick next year.

He doesn't want to be at Carlton and id hazard a guess the club want him out. Keeping him is ridiculous
No it isn't. Read my post. Giving Curnow away for way under his worth is ridiculous. If you think picks in the 20's isn't unders, how do.you explain Pertracca's worth at pick 7 & 8?

Absolutely, I’m sure they’ve already got some sort of internal deadline mapped out.

The cynic in me thinks the deals are probably already done, and the AFL’s just dragging it out for a bit of last-minute suspense/entertainment.

Cant imagine that we dont have other things in train if we are only trading with Sydney

Strongly suspect we will be doing more

I think deals around it are yet to be finalised. If we get …….. will Dogs take it for Khamis etc

I said last week that Charlie deal will unlock a number of other things for us. This with pick for Walker has made trading Charlie tolerable

You need to check out the points value of picks for this year. They are vastly reduced. Plus the discount is only 10% now.

54 is worth 14 points, the last pick with points allocated. If it come up 10 spots on the night, it's still only 167 points. Many are ranking Dean at #6 this year and that includes 3 academy players before him. After the discount, the only pick that covers that entirely is #7. Our pick 10 will get pushed back to 13 if the Suns or Brisbane get rid of any picks before ours. We can match with 10 and 34, only if 34 comes in a few spots. Getting rid of 10 makes it impossible. Then we need picks for Ison.

I'm not sure people have got their heads around how tight the AFL have made this. We'd be putting a lot of goodwill into clubs not bidding on our players.
