2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Only 24 hours left. Thank ****. The AFL should really pay us some kind of ambassador wage for providing about 50% of the conversation and news in this trade period so far.
Just made the mistake of watching agenda setters FMD.cornes asks which club has had the best trade period so far .cleary's answer GC getting pick 7 for flanders was overs.lol🤦

Essendon were so disgusted by Hawthorns offer that they didn’t even formally respond 😂
The funny thing is history says Merrett is a good chance to try and leave again next year and they’ll get even less. That would be such a shame.

So Hawks are threatening Essendon to accept their deal for Merrett by 7.00pm tonight or they will trade their pick 9.

Pick 9 is in the table. Reckon we trade Battle for it. Do you reckon they will twig?
Wow, Mitchell threatening the Bombers who have a contracted player - captain no less.
Hope, hope, hope Bombers stand firm.

And I hope we do too.

Tired of these entitled clubs getting their own way all the time.

Melbourne still getting two firsts for Petracca after him try I ng to get out last year.

They’ve actually reduced the 4 yr 400k per year offer to two at $200k from what I understand.

Thank heavens we had the balls to pull out of this deal - would have been total mugs and GWS would’ve made out like bandits.

Anyone else feel like Essendon could really shoot themselves in the foot if they do flat out not even hear Hawthorn out for an offer? Like if a deal doesn't get done and they just completely ignore Hawthorn and Merrett's request, is he gonna come back with a "**** you" attitude?

I don’t think they care at this point. They’re more just making a statement of “**** you hawthorn”.

Yeah, it’s a weird threat ‘accept our offer or you’ll be forced to keep him’. ‘OK then, see ya later’.

I’m looking forward to when the trade period formally comes to an end and that smart arse midget Sam Mitchell is left with a weaker midfield than he had at the start of trade period. I have no doubt that he deliberately leaked details of the meetings he had with Oscar Allen and Zac Merritt in order to create chaos at their respective clubs, and force these players out. He missed out on Allen and if the Blues have any balls, they’ll miss out on Merrett as well.

AFAIAC Essendon should not give a flying f*** if Merrett want to get shitty.

He should not have signed a long term deal if he wanted an easy out.

He just does himself damage if he doesn't put in. Same with Marshall. See what contract either can get in two years time when they are 32 is they want to throw the toys out of the cot.

After an amazing 1st week of trading we have petered out very quickly.

The silence from the club since the Aleer fiasco has been deafening. Something doesn’t add up. Board telling the recruiting team to stop selling our future?? Cap issues??

Might be another boring day tomorrow for us by the looks.

I can’t ever recall seeing a player held to their contract come back not caring, you don’t get to that level of footy by being unprofessional.

He’ll show up, do the work and play good footy next year no matter what happens.

Oudshoorn-Bennier is a genuine gun btw

Gives me Sincs vibes

IMO if we nab him somehow, it’s another first round talent. So so so underrated
Pardon the ignorance- but is there ACTUALLY a player by that name?
Oudtshoorn is a small town in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
I wonder where he comes from?

I don't think publicly stating why we pulled out of the deal is going to do any one any favours at this point. Admitting we just don't rate Aleer and decided to change our minds and not to trade for him isn't something teams come out and say too often.

Probably from the beachhead the Saffies have established in Perth and he somehow made it under the wire and our defences and made it all the way to South Australia ;)
