Didn't Bobby play footy with him recently?

He's been cleared for return to AFL, dont think you can hold failings over someone forever. I'm not going to judge his character without knowing him.
Bobby didn't choose the team members that played during that carnival over a weekend. They may not have even been in the same team or played on the same day.

Not sure how you can compare the two.

Judging TT's character? We all know why he was kicked out of North & the AFL. You don't need to know him personally. And unless you're a woman, you likely would not have seen that side of him anyway, considering it was women he targetted.

I never knew Jeffrey Epstein but I'm pretty comfortable with judging what kind of guy he was. Weird statement.

"He kick ball good" is sadly still too prevalent in some people with handwaving away shitty behaviour and shitty people.
There are definitely some things that are irredeemable.

My comment had nothing to do with his football ability. People are not their actions at a certain time in their life. There has to be room for growth and redemption.

Shunning people and treating them as if they are scum will only help to ensure they stay that way. It seems performative to write off strangers with little knowledge of them as a person.

I've no tolerance for violence of any kind and fully condemn his previous actions. If I knew Thomas I very well may not want to associate with him, but I'll not judge his character when all I know about him is his worst behaviour.

Ironic and pretty gross. But about as unprincipled as you'd expect.
Just different principles to yours. I'd suggest one's less attached to archaic principles of banishment and more into rehabilitation.

Andy Krakouer did jail time. Dane Swan would have if he wasn't at a powerful footy club that could pull strings. Footy clubs should be proud of some of the lives they've turned around. I hope a club thinks they can and does so with Thomas.

There’s generally a good reason why the only thing you know about him is his worst behaviour

Tarryn Thomas has all the opportunity in the world to grow and redeem himself. That doesn't mean the opportunity to play at the highest level of Australian Rules football should be one of the prizes at the end of any personal growth. He had multiple chances to correct his behaviour in the past and screwed them all up.

I hope he learns to be a well-rounded person who treats women with respect and decency. The bare minimum to be expected of a human. That doesn't mean he should ever play AFL again though.

He had multiple infringements when it came to threatening and harrassing women. It's not just one little mistake. North spent multiple years trying to turn his life around. How many more chances?

He can go and be a reformed human being at a country or state league club. Being on an AFL list is a privilege.

I don't know what they were, but know that they didn't put him in jail. Sounds like a bloke with issues. Not sure how making him a pariah helps anyone.

I think pick 22 would be the sticking point. But they'd prob trying to ask it for points

Pick 22 is probably what they are asking for Hayward and Florent, with the 2x 1sts (likely to be in the teens) for Curnow.

Didn't Sydney ask Florent to go and find another club?

Sadly that is a Another Worry that Curnow trade goes down to the Wire and then they have no time to do a Trade with us for Buller
I don't actually think it's the Swans holding it up. It may be the Pies. Didn't the Swans ask for the future 3rd we received for Mihocek? It's reported that we said 'no' and have traded it to Brisbane.

That's if you believe the 'experts'.

It's why I thought it was strange any Blues people would choose TT as a golfing partner whilst they're more than happy to move Hollands on, if they're so forgiving & into rehabilitation.

And then there is their 'Carlton Respects' initiative to top it off.

Some posters seemed to have missed the irony/hypocrisy.

Imprisonment isn't the only measure on whether an action is inappropriate and egregious. He was found guilty on several occasions of breaking the AFL code of conduct.

In February 2024, the AFL announced that Tarryn Thomas had been found guilty of several breaches of AFL Rule 2.3(a) – “Conduct Unbecoming.”

The AFL investigation determined that Thomas had engaged in multiple acts of misconduct, including threatening a woman via direct messages multiple times.

Further:

In November 2024, Thomas pleaded guilty to breaching a court order. Specifically, this was about repeated phone calls to a victim in April of that year.

How many "multiple breaches" of the AFL code of conduct are allowed before a player rescinds their right to be allowed to play AFL?

Again, this is handwaving away the disgusting behaviour of Thomas because of his talent. He's worked on himself, fine, hopefully he's become a decent person. But that does not mean he has suddenly earned the right to play football at the highest level. He demonstrated extremely toxic behaviour and giving him a highly coveted spot on an AFL list in spite of that behaviour spits in the face of the fact we're dealing with a genuine crisis of violent behaviour towards women in modern Australian society. There is a standard that needs to be met here.

You have to personally know someone then, before making a judgement? Interesting.

My preference is not to join a ‘pile on’ for the sake of it. However, as I outlined in my above post, North tried everything to make it work with TT, and failed. This is even with Clarkson in charge, whom I’m sure was very reluctant to let that talent go.
I don't want to derail the thread from our thrilling trade period, so won't take this too much further.

Yes, to judge someone's character as a whole I do need to know them, or at least a decent amount about them. All I know about Thomas is he played footy and some details of the awful behaviour for which he was banned.

I'm not excusing him, my opinion of him is negative based on what I know. That knowledge though is far too limited to be making sweeping statements about his worth as a person and whether anyone should play golf with him.

His right to play AFL was rescinded. Thomas was banned from the AFL due to his behaviour. That ban has now finished. What you are saying is akin to "lock him away and throw away the key" for a crime that our courts didn't even give jail time to.

Then 8 and half…
8 and three quarters…
I use to get, one....two....three....fourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..FIVE!
I had a few extra seconds to comply, unless I was being adventurous with the craft of leather making, making my legs red.
No dye was used during this memory of, lets play catch me if you can  😂
Ouch! Mum was faster lol

This is just silly. We all loved the redemption story surrounding Andrew Krakouer who nearly beat a man to death. He not only got his life back on track but got a gig on a tv show and was welcomed with open arms any time he made a public appearance or did an interview. I'm not sure all of the details of Thomas's misdeeds have been released but DV covers a wide range of behaviours these days.

I think most people deserve a chance when they have Fd up.
