It’s pretty funny, we are all taking the piss about “Frank the Tank” but in reality the best games Mots has played doesn’t come close to what Frank was doing.
He was ****ing amazing & I for one think he will only get better with a strong side working around him.

It’s no longer a piss take, he is a genuine part of us being better - he’s actually demonstrated ability repeatedly for a block of games.

You put that with Harry leading up hard, Moir, Hayward, Ainsworth, Williams that a seriously dangerous forward line. Everyone of those players has the X factor we want from Mots & are better footballers
Frank had 2-3 good games, and before that, everyone was saying "why was he picked? ".....................amazing how fans change their tune. Motlop has had just as many good games and gets killed for it.

I reckon both frank and jesse will be infitely better with hayward and ainsworth in the side.

Im actually most excited for Moir - will now have some excellent teachers, particulalry hayward

I'm hoping that the first time in a long time we wont have a draftee playing regulalry in the seniors for the first half of the year at least
Not against it if they’re burning it up - but it does make it easier for them if they’re around more mature bodies and can be “eased” into games & responsibilities.

We’re lacking KPP on the list, outside H & Weiters, so youngsters playing KPP will be harder again.

E.g. If Ison could slot onto a wing after a big pre-season.

His 3 good games were better than what Mots has done & demonstrated that he can back it up week in week out.
Mots has had 3 good games but not in a row & not at that level

Its always the physicality that concerns me - skills of some young kids can absulutely translate imeediately to seniors but their bodies defintely need time to develop

I think missing out on Buku may be a blessing, we need a bigger stop gap 2nd key defender or 2nd key forward. Don’t have to be a superstar, just an honest competitor. Whether we grab Blight as a rookie and a key forward in the draft pool?
Blight locked and loaded to the Pies unfortunately.

There are other great options out there for us who are better than Buku though.

Sam Frost and Ethan Phillips are my picks.

100% it’s kid strong vs Man strong. It’s how you get hurt & develop bad habits.

18/19 yr old vs a 24+ yr old at their peak of physical fitness is just nuts.

The blokes they line up against can seriously hurt u & with the pride of youth they don’t take a backwards step - recipe for disaster

Essendon receive pick 11
Carl receive 21,27,30
Would cover Dean at pick 6 and still have 300 points left over
Essendon also dont have many list spots and have pick 5 and 6 already. 3 in the top 11 before bids would look good for there members

North recive pick 9 future 4th
Carlton receive future 1st, 46

43,46,54 would be enough points to cover ison at pick 25.
Something along these lines would be ideal. Also get to death ride north all year. Highly doubt north would be keen though unless we were giving a future 2nd back which we dont have
I like the idea, and I can see something like this happening.

But we can only take picks into the draft for places we have open on our list. To use 21, 27, 30, 43, 46, 54 in the draft, we'd need to create 5 more list spots (i.e. cut 5 players).

Also don't see Norf doing that deal, though something similar with another club could work.

I am on the fence.

This haul of players and picks represents a terrific pivot accomplished in one trade period away from what we were doing to something different. I thoroughly approve of what looks to be a plan to create more dynamic ball movement and to bring in quality pieces that while not inside the first 10 selected - Hayward is probably inside the first 10 - are still easily best 22- 23.

But here's the problem: we still have the Cripps-Hewitt speed issue out of the middle, and as a consequence we still need to deploy our wings defensively first because our centre mids are slow enough to exploit defensively. While the inclusion of Chesser - if capable of being added to the centre rotation - might contribute here, it's no sure thing, and our clearance setup was so reliant on TDK to win the ball either through taps or through him just doing it himself that in order to allow Cripps-Hewitt to work we need to do something different.

The other side of it is that in 2012-13, we all told ourselves that you couldn't pay a small forward what Betts was asking, that it was a smart trade. That if Waite wanted out, **** him. That if Robinson and Garlett were going to lie to the club, we didn't want them round anyway. That if Henderson didn't want to be here, he and his mum could piss off.

This saw us systematically dismantle our forward line at the behest of another Collingwood bloke who was brought in to take us to the next level. Now, Curnow is one piece, but that's an awful lot of goals out the door. If we cannot replace them, we're gonna struggle.

I dunno. They say history might not repeat exactly but it frequently rhymes. I like the idea of changing things around, the redeployment and the clear indications that we're aiming at 2027 hard; I struggle with the depth and breadth of quality we've lost on every line. It's not an unequivocal success nor unmitigated disaster, but time will tell how impactful this trade period was.

Agree with this in so many ways.

The biggest microscope will now be on ONE person. Harry McKay, whether he likes it or not.

Similar to what happened when Buddy left the Hawks, Roughy had to step up and be 'the man', which he did. Dare I say that H has more talent than Roughy and must now lead the forward line. Time for him to get his head out of the clouds and be the leader that he should be.

Buddy was a hundred goal kicker and fed the small forwards as well (something Charlie never did), so H knows what's in front of him. My advice is to get into the psychologist's office, get your head right NOW and turn up in 3 weeks good to go.

Oh, and let's help our dreadful ball use from HB and midfield is fixed with the new additions!

I think we've really modernised the forward line moving on one of our traditional key forwards and bringing in a bunch of small & medium forwards who are still strong overhead. I'd only bring in a key forward as back up to Harry.

I would have liked to do the Buku deal just because we committed to him and obviously had him earmarked, but with that not happening, I do feel like we can still easily 'replace' him, for want of a better word.
Maybe I haven't seen enough of him but I don't rate him as any better than McGovern anyway

Gee that Curnow trade board thread is a disaster zone, filled with salty Geelong fans and a select handful of toxic Blues fans that are so negative you'd swear they were troll accounts
You can pick the trolls pretty easily.

Incessantly negative no matter the circumstances.

Pick 11, 43 & 54 are enough to match a bid for Dean at 7 or after and about pick 49 away from being able to match him at 6

So the questions are
1) do we think Dean will last past the top 5
2) Are we going to Bid on Ison?
3) How do we get value out of pick 9 (or 11) given we are just needing points?

I absolutely love what we've done this trade period. We have done a rebuild on the fly which will make us highly competitive immediately, we have high draft picks for Walker, Dean etc ahead of Tassie diluting the draft. If Voss and team can build a good team plan I think we're pushing for the eight next season. Most optimistic I have been since Judd turned up.

Edit: I should add, Judd was just one player and in hindsight it was a false dawn. This time I really believe the foundations are solid.

H, Kemp, Hayward, Williams, Moir, Motlop, Ainsworth & Evans has the potential to be a very diverse and threatening forward line up

Hoping we establish a good leadership group…including Haynes and maybe one or both Hayward/florent.

Leadership is paramount for success.
