This is not a critique of the Cats but trying to imagine how they would have handled the Crows offer is very funny to me.

Would have been some incredible leaking to the Geelong Addy about how unreasonable the Crom are.

Our list is bursting at the seams with talent unfortunately and we somehow have to fit in another top 5 mid this draft! It kind of puts things into perspective when certain other clubs are struggling to recruit any midfield talent. I won’t name the clubs of course.

We don't have any issues recruiting midfield talent. Dawson, Rankine, Peatling et al.
We dont have a nice academy like you to get first shot at tho.
Form is fleating, so dont jinx yourself.
As soon as the first whistle is blown in the 2026 season, the 2025 premiership won't matter.

GCS and them don't value 2nd rounders given the massive leg up they get from the draft so it's very foreign to them.

Didn’t stop up from bringing in a bunch of guns and trading with GWS multiple times since.

Not to mention that history has shown that Hatley wasn't worth the pick GWS wanted for him. They valued him higher than he was worth.

Imagine if they did take him anyway in the PSD at say 1.2 million for his 1st 2 years, and then Butters wants to leave next year and port can't match a RFA bid as they are out of cap space and have to accept a mid 1st for him OR they have to shed more players they don't want to to free up extra cap space. List management conundrums eh

Port arnt going to blow over a million a year on CAC. They have their own liat management issues to think about, as you stated.
The majority of clubs will go into the PSD with no list spots anyway.
The only loser in this is Brisbane.

Hes not going anywhere else.
Unlike the old days where Stevens was taken by Carlton, player managers have far more power and influence than they have ever had.
Ben will be on the phone to all other clubs telling them that if they take CAC in the PSD then it could hurt them when it comes to another one of his players.

Just to give an idea of how much managers feature, while you have two clubs trying to come up with a deal, the managers are also talking to other clubs about possible deals they could be doing to get the trade done.
Its a very different world.

And Adelaide could have accepted a pick slide of 16 to 23 and a F2 or two x F2s for no other reason than to help Ah Chee on to Adelaide, a player they’ve been chasing all year, you know like in all instances when a club wants a player it’s incumbent on them to get it done.

And we could have also given Brisbane two firsts and a second just to make sure they were happy...Derp.

Adelaide is trading to make their team better, not to make Brisbane's team better.
Brisbane now will miss out on a 2nd and 3rd round pick, while Adelaide will keep its pick 16, and its 2nd and 3rd and get CAC.
Theres only one loser in this, and it aint Adelaide.

Gotta be honest with you, it really does make a difference in how you enjoy the season.

Every time you have a meh performance, you get to go "Oh well, we won the flag next year, can't win every game." This was the most stress free footy season I've ever had.

Every time the crows lose you'll all rush to the Sack Nicksy thread to deliver your 2c.

This is arguably the worst player thread this trade week. Have to say did not see 100+ pages coming about Cal Ah Chee of all players.

I too wasn't expecting such anger from Crows supporters. They're going to get the player for nothing and their club didn't budge at F2 & F2, fair play.

If I expected anything, it's upset Lions supporters for not at least taking F2 & F3 as a consolation for an OOC player.

They haven't had to deal in 2nd rounders for year, it's beneath them. It's either 1st rounders or use junk picks to draft high FS and Academy pick players.

Feels pretty similar to the sav one. Nothing untoward, nothing leaked, Mackie dug his heels in and accepted picks 70-something and 90-something in the end.

The one before that was Jordan Clark and the only thing getting to the press was about how he had already packed his bags and left. We accepted the picks freo wanted give us

Both players are still well liked and catch up with the guys when they're in town

Now you can argue is an OOC player worth at least 1 pick in the 30's? Better than nothing sure but it's also quite insulting considering the level of money they're paying him.

From my understanding our academy hasn't got much coming in next year and with the rule changes coming in, stocking up on "junk" picks is not a thing anymore.

Also every club has access to our academy players, we just have to match the bid and rules are coming in to make that harder. Thanks Leigh.

One of our academy players is a top-5 player at the Crom according to their BnF, which is the only way to value players!
