A-League Men Round 1 and.. we are back! after the longest pre-season and some major changes its finally good to get some action started. The big change this season is no bye. With Western United folding we are back to an even 12 teams eliminating the bye. Also no more Unite Round, Boy was that a c@ck up the way it was handled by the APL. A lot of teams have gone through rebuilds so expect some unpredictable results early. So what are we expecting this season? Will the league soar to great heights or stay stale? either way its good to be back.
On to Round one. A few big matches to start the season. We kick it all off on Friday night in Adelaide with the Reds taking on Sydney FC than Saturday two big matches with WSW hosting Champions Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory V Auckland FC who will be keen to knock off Victory after last seasons Semi final loss. We close out the round with an F3 derby what more can we ask for to start the season.

Skyblues to return to their rightful place on top.
Starts soon.

All that talk of the championship true club rubbish will have the goal posts removed when all games crowds smash even their biggest games.

Nek Mint loss to Adelaide 4-0 :p

Always nice to wear the gold patch and definitively prove Melbourne is red, white and blue. Doubtful City can go back to back but hey who knows?
Last season was an unexpected triumph.

We overcame a season long injury crunch, played the academy kids, held on to 2nd by 1 point, had Auckland knocked out so could host the GF, hit form in the semi finals and took the championship.

Balances out a few times where we had great talent, a great season and ran out of gas (or had GF hosting relocated).

Happy A-League day to those who celebrate
Yeah there's a few dozen of us left ;)

Just praying that we have a champion outside of the 2 Vic clubs, Mariners or Sydney FC this season......just for something different pleeeeez

What's the idea with having two games on at the same time to open the season?

Same time? Syd v Ade 7pm, Roar v Macarthur 9pm.

Ahh, was confused by how it was written in the OP.

Yeah I don't think those times are right. Adelaide v Syd is starting at 6pm ESDT. Which is 7pm in NSW. Roar are starting at 9pm in NSW, which is 8pm ESDT.

Yeah man, make no mistake I hate Sydney FC with a burning passion.

Don't we all! except Colonial

Sydney FC haven't won for while now through bit of a drought for their standards long may it continue I say.. but they bounce back with a vengeance when they have a poor previous season so they'll be one to look out for.

Not to be picky, but the timezones acronyms for this time of year are:

AEDT - (Vic / NSW) Australia Eastern Daylight Savings Time
AEST - (QLD) Australian Eastern Standard Time
ACDT (SA) Australian Central Daylight Savings Time
AWST (WA) Australian Western Standard Time
NZDT (NZ) New Zealand Daylight Savings Time

Might make it a bit clearer with the game time posts.

2020 for Sydney FC, and 2018 for the Victory.... Long may both droughts continue 😁
