Ollie was dropped for the first final, and then was sub in the semi in 23. Fog played 3 games in Voss' first year, and then we had a 19-2 record when Fog played between round 14 2023 and round 17 2024

19 games for a very skinny first year player isn't being overlooked.
With the inclusion of Florent, Chesser, Newy, Cotters and Jagger, there's no shame in being selected on the bench.(expect Acres to also bounce back)

Fog won't play many AFL games next year.(unless we continue to be front runners in injuries again)

My opinion but I see him more than workrate and self sacrifice. Just a smart footballer. If McKay had his positioning, cleanliness and mental strength he be a genuine star

I think Mckay is a star and mihocek isnt.

I'd say it pre-dates Voss.

Its only towards the end of last year that it felt like we would get some easy goals which probably reflects our opposition winding down as much as a change in game plan

Plays percentages, plays his role, very combative and super consistent. Has been an under rated pillar at the ‘pies for a few years now. Age is catching up and unfortunately Fly and co. are ruthless. Despite their numbers of old farts, they have little loyalty. Once the players reach use by, they are flicked.

Melbourne have reached for a bloke past his prime, and it may bite them on the butt. If they are lucky, they have a competitor who will give 100% for his team and he manages to put 15 plus games together to support the developing forwards they (might) have.

He chose the offer in terms a slightly longer length & salary, at his age it’s the smart option to take, job security..
There’s the possibility off it going two ways okay, further declines or rediscovers his form, hope he goes well

We move the ball so slowly into the F50 that we are easy to cover and even easier to set up against.

Our small forwards just look to crumb (badly) and don't actually make themselves a target, let alone make space for KPFs to lead into.

The best thing that could have happened in trade week is losing a classical CHF like CC. It will force creativity in the F50 and players like Kemp, Ainsworth, Hayward, Moir and Williams to become marking options and hopefully simultaneously give Harry room. Voss has designed our game plan around two marking options and that's about it. No wonder CC and Harry had 2 to 3 defenders on them throughout the 2025 season. Let alone defenders just dropping into the whole 25m out from goal.

You could see the midfield actually wait for CC and H to be clear before they released the kick. It was like watching a poor mans pantomime. The opposition literally had time every contest. We were scored against via counter attack 10 to 15 times a game. like shelling peas.

Yep. We are a great clearance and contest team. But once we get it on the outside we become slow and predicable. But our trading this year already suggests we are trying to remedy this. I think we can all agree its not going to be fixed in one off-season, but I do believe we will make great strides in 26.

What this means in W's and L's is anyones guess. What I do know is Voss has amazing support around him now and anything is possible. We could be bottom 4, but equally we could sneak into the 8. For the sake of Cody, it would be better for bottom 4. For the sake of happiness and sanity, I want to taste finals again

I hope so. Curnow was a late surprise trade where we acquired Hayward/Florent. Some on here say it was well known that Charlie was gone a long way out but we know that is crap as Hayward and Florent knew nothing about their futures right up to the point of their end of season holidays.

So that means from a 'planning' point of view Carlton never knew they were going to get Hayward and Florent. So is vossy really moving from a stoppage only gameplan to more of a balance gameplan that includes turnover/transition goal scoring. Or is he still stubborn but just accepted a couple of stars left and some B grade players joined with some draft picks.

But it still remains...Carlton as a club are not in control of their shit. Doesnt mean it wont turn out well but lets not gift them planning and direction with the acquisition of Hayward/Florent. That was simply a last minute rearguard action.

We can assign them some kudos for driving the best deal i think possible in the turmoil of losing a star player in Curnow. Now somewhere in the next 3 years of the draft we will try and find a Curnow replacement - hilarious as it only took us 20 years to find the first edition.

With the goal of trying to win a flag in the next 3-5 year reset, here is what I do like if Vossy can get a modern gameplan working:

Players i like and rate given the current state of the game:
Weitering, Cerra, Motlop (fwd only), Walsh, Hollands (wing), Ainsworth, Hayward, Mckay, and Hewett.

I like Saad/Williams/Haynes but i think it will be 3 years away before we challenge again and they will retire.
I like Cripps but thinks he hurts us defensively plus age/slowing. He will also be gone by the time we have a hope of challenging.

I like the idea of Jagga/Dean/HoF/L Campo.
I like the impending arrival of Walker.

I just did. And i know the negativity that surrounds motlop but i think in the right gameplan he has a role to play...IMO. Many here scream not a chance...i get it.

Personally, i do think the players in your list can make a flag side to round out the numbers. But I dont currently think any of them can win over 50% of their gameday battles hence not on my list. But i get the motlop call out. I think Vossy along with the fwds coach are butchering some of our players. Maybe they are butchering your list of players too....i just dont see it in their isolated plays/encounters.

Really happy to be proven wrong.

Played seniors too early.

With Florent and Newy back I'd be taking the pressure off Ollie and letting him develop his skills in the two's. He can eventually replace Newy perhaps.

Still thought he had some really good games in there. Shut down Dylan Moore and Bobby Hill, and was rarely not amongst our better players every game. Reckon he was underrated

IMO, if I was picking the side. Past staples of our best 22 would be in the VFL as depth.

Ollie Hollands (Bench)
I like Ollie as a player. Though Chesser, Carroll and Florent offer more of what our team is crying out for Speed & Foot Skills. Whilst having Ollies tank. I think Ollie would be better as a half forward (with midfield stints.)

Motlop & Fogarty (VFL - Depth)
Motlop is much talked about on here. But I don’t see on recent form how Motlop or Fogarty get a game over Ainsworth, Evans, Cottrell, Smith & Williams. Even Flynn Young showed more in his last two games.

Acres (VFL - Depth)
With our focus on speed and foot skills Acres lacks in both. Think he’ll be fighting against Chesser, Walsh/Cerra, Cottrell, Hollands for a spot.

Over all, our trade period has improved our depth and made competition for spots.

Hollands is better than those players you listed … you’re in for a rude awakening as I have watched a bit of Chesser and he is average at best … not even close to what hollands can produce

While dealing with his busted ankle. Chesser was seriously good back end of this year when he came back post surgery. I'm a big Ollie fan though, hoping our wings next year are Chesser and Ollie as a tandem.
