I know he's a bit of a whipping boy, but feel like it would be really harsh to delist Ronnie Byrnes. Plays most weeks, tries his hardest, runs all day, can play wing or back, and is clearly a step above VFL level. Think he's good depth for us, and if we don't offer him a contract I'd be shocked if he wasn't picked up by another team

Yeah but the problem is that ATM its hard to see Keeler as a "key" anything.

With Heath, at least you can see a clear role - even if it is just as a break glass in emergency ruckman.
Keeler is young for a big Key and was skinny -proto type ruck forward see Ryder-very good below his knees -great kick for goal -has some speed -could be anything the rest is up to him-much higher ceiling that Moose

I think he's vying for one of the last 2 list spots at this point. If it came down to the last spot and it was a choice between Monty and a MSD opportunity I'd probably lean towards the latter. It's a tough business when you're on the fringes

What happens with players we dont want for our AFL team but want to hang onto for our VFL team/ how do we manage that?
We tell them we're cutting them because they're too crap for AFL but we want them to stay because they're not too crap for VFL. Surely they'll be ok with that?

Thoughts on Marshall and Steele being at the club 2026?

These are the only 2 players I can see being traded.

*edit. Important players.

At this stage I think we will have 4 rookie spots available.
Will be interesting to see whether Schoey, Byrnes or Carroll get delisted with a possible rookie spot made available, especially given the week draft.

Reckon this strategy could be used for Butler, Said or Barrat to free up some list spots with all these players coming in. We probably should have done it for Dow and Howard before we resigned them

We can still delist Dow or Howard then redraft them to the rookie list if we want to

I guess the next question is who won't be on the list at the end of 2026 -

Byrnes (if not delisted this year)
Clark (traded)
Marshall (traded)
Hill (retired)
Wood (retired)

Players who need big years -
Dow
Carroll
Keeler
OConnell

Butler and Howard as well. Said and Armstrong (to a lesser extent) will probably need to show something in the VFL to get another contract.

I would be surprised if Wood and Hill retired, since they are both contracted until 2027.

Butler has injuries and lack of form, etc. With Liam Ryan onboard, and Max Hall showing so much pressure and output, Butler will be running around in the 2s all year unless someone has an injury. Dan won't even be an emergency in any games

Well now that delisting is finished, we have lost. Webster (Retired) Jones, Cordy, Schoey, Boyd, Mclennan, Heath as well as Steele. So far we have taken on four, so four to go. Any ideas folks.

One pick at the ND, couple off the rookie list and a preseason signing ?

Armstrong only arrived at the Club midway through the season, and he only played several VFL Games.

2026 is really his first true year at the club, and the pre-season coming will be his first. As an Irish lad he also has to learn the game.

I very much doubt that he would only be given 2026 to show his ability when he is so raw to AFL.

At this stage, probably best to do an off list for 2026.

1. Byrnes
2. Carroll
3. Clark- possibly traded
4. Dow
5. Hill-retire
6. Howard
7. Stocker
8. Wood-retire

They'll crack the shits with us and go to another club, and we'll be forced to take players that have cracked the shits with other clubs for the same reason.

We've taken 5 on with the new Irish lad, and Fincher will make it 6.

While I do hope we do land Fincher, we are no certainty to actually land him given our current lack of Draft Pick Points to land him with.

Some ratings have him as a pick 30. Some think it could be earlier, some later.

If another club calls out Fincher's name and if he goes too early unless we trade for more points, our F1 could slide by 4 to 6 places (How much depends on where we finish in 2026, and how early Fincher's name gets called out by another club.)

If he makes it passed the 1st round, which he will,

Which we "hope" he will. Some Pundits have him at Pick 30. Some earlier, some later.
then we'll match and take a deficit into next year. Should be as close to a done thing as we're gonna get.

As an example, if his name is called at Pick 30 = 454 points - 10% = 409 Points.

Picks currently 50, 65, 86, 104. Pick 50 will slide as Clubs match NGA, FS and Academy Players.
Pick 54 is the last pick that has points =14. So Pick 65 may not slide enough to have points.

If our Pick 50 slides down to say pick 45 = 150 points. We are short 304 points.

We have no F2, so points will be deducted from our F1

If we finish say 8th and gain Pick 11 = 1205 points.

- 454 points = 751 points

Pick 20 = 754 points
Pick 21 = 721 points

So matching Fincher would be large drop in quality of our F1.

The other issue is whether the Club wants to be able to trade our F1 as part of a player trade on 2026.
