Seems a strange delisting here...

AFLW 2025: Richmond parts ways with senior midfielder Grace Egan

Sweeping change is coming to Richmond’s AFLW program with a high-profile midfielder the first casualty in a brutal list cull as the dust settles on a disappointing season.

Richmond has made a shock decision to move on experienced midfielder Grace Egan despite her return to form in the second half of the season.
Egan was told at Monday’s exit meeting that the Tigers would not be offering her a new contract – the same day she was voted the club’s best player in the round 12 loss to Gold Coast.

The 25-year-old, who played 43 games at Punt Road over four seasons after joining via a trade from Carlton, had been named in the best players in five of the last seven matches after illness and injury derailed the start of her campaign.

She had 29 disposals and a game-high five clearances and 516m gained in the 14-point defeat to the Suns on Saturday.

Yeah very strange decision given there will be a definite market for her, was a big part of that midfield that totally destroyed the Crows this season.

Understand they are rightly a bit annoyed Richmond as with that midfield especially they thought they were a finals quality team but she is still a quality player and showed that late in the season. Would definitely want the Crows to go after her but I imagine that’s a long shot as she would really want to desperately come here on lower tier money for Phil to show any interest and she’ll likely stay in Melbourne with lots of suitors for her there or move to the Swans (who I think had prior interest in her) or Suns for ‘lifestyle’ reasons.

Strange things happening at Richmond, they seem to be totally blaming the playing group and totally excusing their coach Ryan Ferguson and backing him to the hilt despite his real mediocre record. That contract extension announcement of his whilst they were in the midst of a massive losing streak was weird, especially the timing of it.

Her sister is at Freo as well so could move out west

Big drop off for Ebony from last year.

Big drop off for Ebony from last year.

That was inevitable. Marinoff had a close to perfect season last year, averaging 8.27 votes per round. By comparison, Riddell who had a runaway win this year in an undefeated season averaged 8.33 votes per round.

That essentially means you're best or second-best every single week. Last year Marinoff had 9+ votes eight times out of eleven matches, and had at least 5 votes in every single match. That's hard to repeat when our W/L this year was 7-5.

Good on Riddell, easily my favourite non-Crows player.

The two teams with the softest draws lose their finals

The age old story of AFLW
Melbourne had by far the easiest fixture of the season, only having to play 1 top 6 side (Bris). GWS had the next easiest, but this didn't help them at all. St Kilda actually had a tough fixture, having to play 5 of the top 6 sides this year. WCE did have a fairly easy fixture.

Yeah, I was referring to Melbourne and Hawthorn

I feel like I've slept on Carlton this year. I never really saw them as a genuinely good team, and we never got a chance to play them. Looks like they're going to go further into November than we will, though.
Same. Not sure if I watched any Carlton games this year. They are not a team full of well known stars. They don't have a star studded midfield (McKay, Sherar and Hill) or any stars for that matter, other than their ruck Harrington. E.Fitzpatrick and Finn did both have breakout years on the wing though. They got Bohanna as a forward from Gold Coast, but I couldn't even tell you who their forwards are or who kicks all their goals (maybe it's their midfield).

I've watched most of their games, they're really fun to watch. Sophie McKay is their leading goalscorer, first year player, great mark as well as a great crumber. Fitzpatrick has possibly the best acceleration from picking up a ground ball and excellent goal sense. Harriet Cordner is having an all time season at CHB, marks absolutely everything. Their other mids are Lily Goss and Maddy Guerin, quite a young midfield (and Abby McKay and Hill have been injured a lot this year) so have the tendency to fall in and out of games a bit.
