I could easily name 10 Kfs his age or younger that I’d rather than him
I subscribe to your list and would be in the 10 KPFs around the league his age or younger (i'll settle for born in the same year) you'd take over him

If Walls does pick Thredgold or Schubert then it might mean that he has confidence in Whan and Luke being ok.

Personally I reckon we will snaffle the inevitable slider.

Yeah I agree but it also depends who’s on the board

In that mock draft Phillipou, Hibbins-Hargraeves, Barker, etc would all still be on the board.

Would be insane to take another tall with our first if that’s the case. Literally the last thing we need unless we are trying to field the tallest team of all time. Best available has its limitations.

With our list demographic, can we take a punt on Barker at our first pick if still there. Wasnt he touted a top 10 pick before his injury (ala Taj Hotton)

Yeah I agree but it also depends who’s on the board

I don’t care who’s on the board.

Unlike the rest of the 30 year history of this club, we DO NOT NEED A KPF.

I’d throw the ****ing toys out of the cot.

We have three keys, a ruck that can play as a key, a joining back up ruck who can play as a key if necessary (cox) and Charlie Nicholls at Peel.

We do not have fantastic wings, we’re at least one small forward short for depth as a minimum, and a mobile medium forward who can take a mark overhead would also be handy.

If we reach our pick and there’s such a big gap between either a KPP or the next best player then we should seriously consider trading that pick down to another team more desperate for KPPs and at least get some good future picks out of it.

We have 4 KPPS 23 and under. 3 KPDS 23 and under. Plus Riddle. Cox and McDonald for KPP depth.

Honestly more value in a list spot at that point.

Yeah not ideal but if we don’t have any top end needs players on the board, I’d rather us take a steal than reach for someone

Freo forward line: 195cm or gtfo

Said this a few weeks ago but the four preliminary finalists this year were all top 5 in the tackles inside 50 numbers - we were 13th by comparison.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence the two grand finalists from this year had arguably the best small forward brigades.

Makes no sense to me why we would try to make our already tall forward line even taller. I know this draft isn’t rife for quality small forwards but plz not another tall.

We do not have fantastic wings, we’re t least one smal, forward short for depth as a minimum, and a mobile medium forward who can take a mark overhead would also be handy.
Kickett should be available as a rookie and has shown a bit and from all reports we are keen - small forward.
Mitch Marsh might be available and we were very interested earlier in the year - medium forward.
Matt LeRay i'm not a big fan of but had a good carnival on one wing for SA and Harley Barker who I am a fan of is worth a shot despite his knee if he were available - wing.

From what Cal said earlier today - no club wants to trade next years selections for this years.

Issue is no-one wants to trade into the draft

I agree. Just cannot see any way that at 26 another long term key forward is the best option

Thilthorpe, Morris, Cadman, Voss, Treacy, Caddy, I even like dear more than amiss, Darcy, Neale, Walter
Bolded are all older by a year, not allowed to include them. Voss is riding high off one season, needs to back it up and while I get it with Caddy in particular, him and Walter have kicked 29 goals each, need to reach Jye's 41 in his first full year as a career tally before we are putting them in front of Jye.

Look, I get being concerned about him but I think we are way too quick to put players in the "not getting much better bucket" and think Jye is a bit of a victim of his own early success. I wonder if any player in the history of our club has kick 113 goals by 71 games.

Every year people listen to our lead recruiters say they are going to be guided by best available and then act like not only that they didn't just say it, but have never said it. Then proceed on to have a nuclear melt over one pick. We are not going to materially reach for anyone with 1st or 2nd round picks. There are over 40 people on an AFL list. You can worry about squad positional balance with late picks, the rookie draft and SSPs / DFAs.

Hell, even Oscar McDonald can kick a few as a key.

He’s actually gotten worse. Not the far he isn’t improving but he’s actually regressed. I’m more than happy to be proven wrong. Don’t get me wrong an I don’t want us to pick a KF at all but Schubert is different if no one else is on the board. If any of Jevan, NHH, barker type on the board then we should take them 100%
