Seemed to play predominantly at HBF in the champs. Looks most suited to HBF to me. I certainly hope he makes it as a mid (in the mould of Bont and Day who he admires) but I think there are genuine question marks on that.
He played everywhere this year. He said it himself that at the start of the year, the coaches told him they were going to move him around in other positions, which he wasn't that keen on at first but enjoyed it more as the season went on because he got to impact on every line, rather than just playing mid.

He certainly has the aerial and athletic ability to be a half back, but he’s shown throughout the back half of the year that he’s more than capable at winning his own ball in the guts despite being a bean pole. Reckon he starts on a wing in the Dempsey mould and slowly moves inside

Umm, Duursma's a midfielder, not a HBF. Played mid/fwd all juniors. Only played around the ground this year because clubs wanted to see how versatile he is.

Not sure why people keep thinking he's not a mid.
Because it doesn't suit their narrative.

Duursma - mid who can also play in all areas of the ground.
CDT - tall who plays like a mid.
Addinsall - mid
Banfield - mid
Evans - mid
Starcevich - backman who wants to play mid
Schoenberg - mid
Macrae - mid
Robertson - mid

Surely with bringing in all these guys and taking into account the possibilities of McCarthy/Hough/Allan getting a run in the middle, as well as the usual suspects in Harley/Hewett/Gross/Hall/Yeo/Kelly/Graham we've got it covered.

They're not all solid gold A graders but with the increased competition for spots we should have a reasonable midfield contingent going forward.

Right. Time to nail my colours to the mast so I can look an idiot in a few years.

1. Duursma. Great footballer, great kid. Easy choice as #1 this year.
2. Patterson bid. My favourite of the club-tied kids. Wish we could get him - worth pick 2 just for the thrill factor.
3. Annable bid. The most balanced midfielder in this year's crop. Not worse than Dyson Sharp.
4. Dean bid. Too early, but I think we're now expected to do it, and Carlton will match. Good player, but not the 4th best.
5. Uwland bid. Again, we know GC will match, so we should bid, but he's missing a 2025 body of work.
6. CDT. I've changed my mind, and I now prefer him to Sharp. I'll explain why later.
13++. Harley Barker. Only his injury makes him available to us here. Metres gained, plus metres run (in both directions) plus decent contest. We've been shoehorning players onto the wing; he's a natural. Prefer him to all other candidates likely available here (Addinsall, Lindsay, NHH, etc.) I'd take Dovaston but don't expect him to be on the board.

Tylah Williams: pass. He plays in the forward half of the ground, but he's not the type of forward we need (goalkicking, crumbing, tackling pressure). I'd rather back Champion in to develop, or wait for McGlade and Farmer. Williams will be a better fit for a team looking for a link-up HFF, and an early bid will arrive accordingly.

Also, we are already drafting the best pressure forward in the draft, in the 201 cm CDT. Who can also impact the game in multiple other positions.

Picks 34/41(ish): these are the super-hard decisions. Having passed on Williams, we would now have room for Banfield and Evans if bids arrive. But there may also be some decent players available at these picks, although drafting them would risk losing our club-tied prospects. My preference is to trade these picks out for futures if possible, because there will be good options at the future picks too, and I think both Banfield and Evans are worth having on the list.

Match Banfield or select with our last live pick in the main draft if no bid arrives. Like Jake Waterman.
Match Evans or otherwise to Cat B.
Walley to Cat B, with Champion upgraded to Cat A.

Robertson, Macrae in SSP, and also Schoenberg, I guess - although I would prefer to rookie a project tall (Krasnadamskis, Stumpf, whoever).

As much as we dont want another HBF, Lindsay has the best foot skills in the draft along with elite decision making which is a skill set that will always be valuable at AFL level, rather pick him than a B grade mid reach and grab the elite mid next year.

Old mate Bondy used to say that if the elite mids are gone, HBF with elite disposal are the next best, and they should be available with the first rounders we had when we were good (or chose to spilt, or in this case our third pick when we're the worst team ever).

I agree with that for the most part, the problem was we weren't drafting HBF with elite disposal 😩

The reactions to us taking Hough are hilarious. The vast, vast majority of us don't know shite, and it shows.
Huge melts about Hough over Arlo Draper (taken by Collingwood shortly after then delisted after two years and 0 AFL games).

It’s such a joyous time of year, so much venom spewed and certainty held by people who are throwing darts, at best.

Can’t wait for the draft day thread.

Happy sharing it but I will wait until middle of 2026 before I attempt 2027.

Here is my early listing for NGA and FS in 2026 draft. Out of them, I see Kehn, McGlade, Shanahan and Williams as real possibilities and Harper I see as the best Banfield as it stands.

As you can see, loads of small forwards, a distributing HBF, a CHB plus a lone midfielder.

Kehn and Harper look the only two certainties, but much can change in 12 months.

With the number of quality NGA's increasing in numbers each year, we need to realign our thinking regarding how it can benefit us (i.e. being able to match players we'd otherwise miss out on) rather than giving players a cat b spot just for the sake of it (i.e. Tarir Bayok, Jordyn Baker). This is probably where a Walley comes in.
For me the 2 necessities for our list are Banfield & Evans.

I've never seen Williams play, but our best link up small forward is Cripps (when he was at his best), and he's got one year left. Williams would be a natural replacement. We also have Noah Long who has one year left and extremely likely to be delisted, and Owies, who will have a year left on his contract at the end of the seaosn, but would be a prime delist candidate unless he completly changes his form.

We could certainly use some more small forwards of all types as a result.

Wow must say all this love for Addinsal has come out of the blu.

Personally would be disappointed if he ended up on our list.

Would prefer if we could some how trade up for Dovaston or Girlj if not trade back for Barker or Poo.

Cripps also kicks goals, though. Not sure Williams replaces that. But even post-Cripps we do have Newton, Long, Owies, Champion, Hutchinson on the list, and we only need a couple of them to work, along with forward stints from Hewett, H Reid, Duursma, and two NGA small forwards in the mix next year.

T Williams will come at a price, and I'd prefer to prioritise Banfield and Evans.

But we have more than enough point to pay that price unless they can bundle up with 13 to get something higher

I have not seen enough of T Williams, Banfield or Evans, only highlights. They all look handy, now if teams consider Williams a top 20 or 30 draft pick and we have access then why not do it. It would appear that Banfield and Evans are looking more back end of the draft to rookie so surely you risk one of those.

Straight from the AFL site Draft countdown recap;

* The Bulldogs are keeping an open mind at the draft, expecting four or five players of interest to be available at their first pick. They have not ruled out a pick swap on the night, and are also set to pick up Will Darcy, the younger brother of Sam and father of Luke

Oh Wow!! who is this Miracle of a person who is the father to his older brothers dad?

Yeah that's it for me.

**** you wce for ruining my Wednesday. I'm not tuning into this crap. I am not an enabler

The happy clapping seals will never admit they are wrong. I mean look at Murphy Reid he won the rising star and we have some seals saying Bo is great success.

**** you wce for the following
1. Making me miss WCE biggest draft haul night OR Taking Dyson sharp but making me miss it because of me not tuning in
2. Dooming this club for the next five years.

This club is stuffed for the next five years. I look forward to the acrobatics when we finish bottom 4 for the next FIVE years and potentially Duursma and Harley leaving the club 2027 together to reduce the hate. I haven't included CDT because he's not going to be worth anything come his request for trade

I might tune in until the names get picked to see if they are Hail Mary trades. The last time I felt gloomy was preseason last year and turns out I was right when we won game. Best thing coming out of the trade and draft peroid is DEV.

If we pass on Williams and I'm not that keen on him, I'd use 34 on Riley Onley 41 on Curtin or Frod. I'd honestly be surprised if a Banfield or Evans get a bid we can rookie list them straight up.

I hope the club somehow has an inkling of whether bids will come on Banfield or Evans. If we're confident no bids will arrive, then it does open up options like those you've mentioned. I still like Rodriguez.

A pretty solid group potentially. Given it can be any variation of the above, there should be an extractor there somewhere (if not Dev). No shortage of mids. Can have wing mids, HB mids, HF mids. And a decent roving utility ruck player.
Pretty happy with that.

Meh, a lot of ordinary mids at this point. At the end of next season we should have a much better idea of who is going to make it or not, and we can aggressively cut those that we don't expect to make it.
At least we can expect dev, macrae and shoen to train the house down all year fighting for a spot. Hopefully it really lifts our training standards and the young guys come on quicker.
