Joke in itself. Won a club BNF in a league better than Bendigo and before this year played 18 games at South?
The rules are changing from a Major to Major league is 3 points. They no longer have an additional point for BnF.

So that means when he came back without have been a 3 pointer minus the 1 point for the previous year he played. That’s why he would have been 2. Same as everyone else under the same circumstances.

I don’t think anyone should have any issue with South over getting points reduced it’s not their job to give a sucker an even break
Where the issue would be is if it is correct that Castlemaine were denied any points relief to allow them to recruit Ben Brown for a few games which I have heard but not from anyone in a position to know
Maybe Crazy could comment on that
We didn’t ask for points reductions. We weren’t smart enough

They had about 4 guys on deducted points, yet poor old maryborough didnt get anything.

Ovens and murray are very transparent on allowing additional points and clubs know well in advance to the season starting.

The point is you cant have rules for some and not for others and come out and explain, its pretty easy to be transparent, when you work for the clubs like the racs were put in place for

Maryborough played with 14 spare points in their last game. Don’t think points were the issue.

So in other words people are annoyed that a club that had won one final in 12 years and got beaten by 2 teams by over 150 points the year before got deductions because they thought to ask for them.

So many people on this forum talk about struggling clubs needing assistance from the league but when it actually happens there’s an uproar about it.

Yes if Maryborough, Castlemaine or K Flat have gone through the same process of listing reasons that players should have their points deducted then they should get the same. But you shouldn’t just expect things to happen if you’re not asking for them.

How many points reduction did they get? Its not just a bendigo issue, the points system is across the state, north albury appealed and got 1 point extra. They have struggled longer than south. If you give south say 3 points or as they did just drop player points, if im running a competition, im letting the other clubs know and im saying to maine and flat you guys get the same increase in points.

Wouldn't that have been far better and get clubs onside, instead of the Travis cloke smoke and mirrors the other clubs received

You cant recruit in the last round of the year, clearances close June 30.
Sorry last round was used as an example and I couldn’t be bothered looking through round by round. They used 33 in round 3. The point is Maryborough hade some deep u deleting issues, whatever they might have been. Having enough points to fit players in didn’t seem to be their issues as much as getting quality players full stop. Not knocking them at all but a break and re set might of been needed.

So if points are reduced for some players due to personal or special circumstances, the same point reductions must be given to players of other struggling teams whose circumstances are completely different? I think not

The points system doesn't work. Full stop.
Why cant clubs just recruit who they want and breach the salary cap by as much as they can, so we can talk about something else. ;)

If the clubs point those same reasons out to the league than yes they should. Clearly says in the rules clubs can apply to have points deducted.

If you don’t apply no deductions that simple.

I completely agree, it’s all a farce. The standard of the league was much higher pre cap and I feel the bottom sides are worse now than they were before

Salary cap should go, but the points system cant go. It was a complete mess before it was introduced and it now needs rejigging or an overhaul, but country footy was getting incredibly weak all over the state, as most div 1 metro clubs had double the money of country clubs, ammos could offer the world and we had guys parading as coaches who just took 12 guys to a new club every year, with ok results, make finals but never really in the hunt, make a fortune and move on to a better offer in 12 months time.

Who knows what will happen now though, clubs now seek donations in their ngr, all clubs are trying to spend a war chest

I agree completely. The previous post implied that Maine and flat should of got the same deductions as south for no reason other than to be fair.

The lack of transparency on the points issue is just another example of bias and favouritism within. Yes it comes down to individual clubs applying in their own right for potential points reductions, but I agree, the whole points system within the BFNL is shrouded in secrecy. It just adds to the unrest and pessimism within the league.

It’s about being transparent…that is the issue, it is supposed to be a level playing field.

Spot on. More should have been done earlier to help others, but can’t help than laugh at the uproar off the back of a team getting a small bit of assistance, that assistance working, they make finals, and the apple cart is upset.

Thanks for the memories.
Played ammos for four years back in the 90s - D and E grade to be exact.
We had about 20 guys on the payroll.
Alas, I wasn't one, so obviously not so highly thought of by the brains trust.
