On paper we now have much improved Coaching group. Looks great

I don’t see the Simpson appointment as a threat to Voss at all

I am so happy with our Development focus. Been such a weakness for years

Key now will be can they work well together and communicate. Need to be on same page and be able to have strong conversations.

Simpson will need to be very strong with Voss. Voss is strong willed and rarely changes opinion. It’s a strength and a weakness.

If we don’t come out Round One with a new game style and focus changes will happen very quickly

Massive pre season for so many
Have to agree Soapy, our development has been poor. But in saying that, watching some of the guys performing in the VFL last year and playing themselves into form, then brought that same level of good form into the seniors was an outlier on years gone past. I hope that continues and improves.

You look at our women's team and we have had a sprinkling of really good players as we do in our men's, but the improvement has come from the younger players who have adapted to a buy in of team football and complemented our better senior players. This is what we need to happen to the mens side, we need to move away from the reliance on our "star" players to win us a game. (Which to me was Voss's whole game plan)

It’s ridiculous to think that the CFC has a sinister plan to eliminate Voss during the 2026 campaign.
Adam Simpson will give guidelines and profession direction to the many new coaches and help cohesiveness to coaching panel.
Most importantly he’ll submit an assessment and evaluation to Vossy’s potential after 2026. GW and CD have taken the responsible course of action. We’re on the correct trajectory it will take a few years yet.
At long last professional operators have been given the carte blanch to turn our destiny around to positive development and wining premierships.

Many clubs have had coaching directors.or ex senior coaches front and centre of the football department. This is a mature appointment that serves 3 purposes
1. Assists Voss tactically, especially from a guy who has watched all the other clubs for 12 months and understands how to translate tactics to the Carlton list

2. Provide an objective assessment on which of the assistants are capable of stepping up. ie Josh Fraser

3. Unlikely but assume the Paul Roos Role with a young assistant for 2 years.

To all those supporters who start reading tea leaves and assume every appointment is an expression of the dark arts administered by faceless men; Simpsons appointment is what proper strategy looks.like

"Voss needs better support"
Club gets him support
"OMG we're getting ready to replace Voss"

Is it a good sign when you need to hire a mentor for a senior coach who's been doing the job for nearly 10 years?
It is better to embrace a mentor than believe you know everything and cannot learn anything new, pretty sure.

Not sure how I feel about this appointment.

On the one hand, I was vocal in my belief that Vossy needed an ex coach somewhere on staff to help him out. So in that regard, it's an excellent decision.

On the other hand, yes Simpson coached a flag...but over the course of the next 6 seasons, he watched over probably the biggest rabble the AFL has seen in a long time. Yes, there were some factors beyond his control...but still...the buck stops with the coach.

I just hope they've earmarked him for a role that complements his skillset...and he sticks to that and that only.

I wouldn’t read too much into the West Coast rabble angle. I watched some of Simpson’s analysis last year and thought it was excellent. It’s not rocket science, the vast majority of us can see the inefficiencies in our ball movement and the lack of a modern game plan. Hopefully Simpson can help get that through to Vossy and make an impact.

7 News Melbourne - 'Carlton is beefing up its support for embattled coach Michael Voss'

Breaking news: Mitch Cleary has lost his Thesaurus, he has no words to describe how bad that makes his stories.

The flag winning coach was in charge of an absolute rabble his last 4 years at wet toast, they were apparently the worst team ever and he was sacked and Carlton now want him to oversee our performances and point out where we are going wrong.
3 time flag winner malthouse how did that turn out for us.

Was nothing wrong with Malthouse or Simpson, both instances are that of a weak list. Could the coach have played a part in that? There are a lot of elements of a footy department and they can all throw a good coach under the bus. No coach can take a poor team off the bottom without those elements working well.

What we know about the game is that the 2018 era was a different ear to now, game has changed and the coach will need to adapt. I think he will.
