I find it interesting that many young , and not quite young, Australians wear American sports hats and tops as street fashion. You see a lot of Chigago Bulls hats on the tram. Why's that's not cringe?

. Yet wearing drinki di tru blue Aussie AFL gear is seen as rather declasse.

I wear my Leaseplan polo top , at least 20 years old and going strong.

Exactly. It's easy to take a perspective that following sport at all is cringe. Then posting on a forum about football? Super-dooper cringe. If you're gonna do it, go all in. Wear the apparel. Paint your face. Get a tattoo. It's an escape from the seriousness of the rest of our lives. A bit of fun. Don't take yourself so seriously. The word "fan" is an abbreviation of fanatic, after all.
Well said but have you seen the geelong cat man?

I was wearing my Dogs jacket at Cranbourne station a while ago and a guy had a bit of a rant at me about it being cringey wearing AFL clothing but he had dreadies and furry shoes with toes and nails on the ends etc so not sure if he was a bad judge of fashion or wearing an AFL jacket is actually more cringey than his gear

Should have asked him where the shoes were from. You could be the bulldogs dog man

The adoption of baseball style caps generally over the past few decades has been a boon for skin specialists and melanoma surgeons. These caps offer little or no protection from damaging UV sun rays. In this country we should all be emulating Barnaby Joyce (heaven forbid!) and wearing wide rim akubras or stetsons.

Cultural cringe is the ultimate cringe.
