Being 17, there's still a small chance he might grow a couple of cms.

Wonder if the club can x-ray his growth plates. :tearsofjoy:
The NBA draft combine does all manner of medical testing.

"A key element of the draft combine is medical evaluations. Each player is put through a number of medical tests: blood work, EKG’s, MRI’s and x-ray's, to name a few. The results from these tests are made available to all thirty teams. The number one reason for a player to dramatically slip in the draft is due to medical concerns that come from these evaluations." - source: https://www.si.com/nba/2018/05/15/nba-draft-combine-2018-player-agent-guide

Pick 31 is a very valuable pick especially when you factor in the players in the open pool.

Can’t help but feel he could’ve been picked up much later or even as a rookie
You can question it, but unless you have access to the same sort of in depth scouting information that the club has, what are you really basing your debate on, the media experts saying that we reached?

Listening to the interview with Rhy and Michaels , I think this kid is going to be a very good player/selection. Rhy was so upbeat on his potential and he’s one of the youngest in the pool. May take a while to mature and improve his tank, but boy, I’m very upbeat about his potential after watching that interview.

I think we need to be realistic with what we can expect in the next 2-3 years with this boy
Need to consider him as a 2026 draftee

Agree, he is very very upbeat on Zane and I think they are very excited to see his growth.

Unless you look into the talent pathways and watch the under 18 champs and state comps, you shouldn't be disappointed with picking Zane @ pick 31. Last time we picked a 17-year-old with a similar pick was when we selected Bolton @ pick 29.
Remembering that player managers manage numerous players/draftees and contact teams. So, the Tiges recruiting team would have been aware that another team was keen on Zane around the mark. And when you rate a player based on certain qualities that your team/culture values then taking that player @ pick 31 isn't a problem when you have them ranked inside the top 20/30 players in the open draft. Zane was a very astute pick from the team, not many hard-edged goal kicking smalls that can go impact in the middle even in the big league. He has a powerful build so could play taller than his height suggests. He also compliments the players we have drafted the past 2 years. I think Zane can definitely become a top-line AFL player in his own right.

On reflection and following a little more research, I've got a sneaking suspicion Peucker could be the steal of the draft.

Massive upside.
Don’t we get the steal of the draft every year?

I reckon that if I had posted on here saying "I reckon Sam Grlj & Zane Peucker are who we should take with pick 4 & 31, you guys would have fallen off your chair. But when Hartley does it, ya'll immediately lean back and say "genius".

Just remember, a "professional" drafted Aaron Fiora & Jarryd Oakley Nicholls too
Have a listen to Gieschen on TigerCast and how they get their rankings.

In summary: Give everyone a score based on a whole heap of ranked criteria developed over years of data: eg. GPS data, kicking, competitiveness and so on....

Then....5 of the list mgt team go away and provide their own individual rankings, using their own eye test and thoughts about where each player should be ranked in addition to the 'points' accrued by their rankings system.

Then, they collate the 5 x rankings from each of them, which then provides their ranking for draft night. If 2 x players are very closely ranked and are both available, then list needs might come into play.

So when it got to pick #31, whatya know.....we looked at the rankings, and who do you think was ranked at the top? Based on loads of data, copious hours of vision, interviews, testing results and the opinions of 5 x list management experts?

It was Zane Peucker. So what do you think we did? We selected him.

Why anyone thinks there's some weird behaviour where our team ignores rankings and plucks randoms just for the sh*ts and giggles is beyond me.

So we get to pick #31 and Peucker is available and tops our list. So what some on here seem to think we should do is trade out pick #31 for later picks as we've assumed he'd be there at #40 or #50 or whatever. OK...let's play that out. We trade #31 for pick #40 and a F4.

Then Peucker is taken at #39. So then we get to #40, and we have to go down to the 25th player on our list to select as Peucker and 6 others we preferred are gone, whilst Peucker was 18th in our rankings.

And Gieschen also confirmed Peucker's father was a mad Tiger and his manager was really keen for him to get to Richmond....and was wording them up as to which other clubs had shown interest in picking him - probably a few clubs with picks immediately after #31, hence we snapped him up.

We might get picks wrong and Peucker might be a dud and worse than 20 x players taken after him.....but let's not live in fantasy land where we think any player we take hasn't involved literally hundreds of hours of thought and analysis.

When it got to pick #31 Peucker was atop our list of available players, so we picked him. Nothing more sinister than that. Fox Footy, Cal Twomey, Dylan Alexander or me not having him ranked in the top-60 has less than nothing to do with the rankings our team works from.

Or do you think we ranked Phillipou, Greeves, NHH, Max King, Ludowyke etc.... higher than Peucker but inexplicably ignored our rankings and selected Peucker because it seemed like a good idea at the time?

Hadn't heard of him before the draft.

Based on his attributes and what I've seen I like the type and fits a need. Surprised he wasn't rated higher.

Is he going to be any good? Who knows.

Could we have got him at a higher pick? Worthy of discussion

Are our recruiting team infallible and beyond critique? No.

Very happy with the Peucker selection , He was not who we all had in mind and all thought it should be NHH or Phillipou
But thats because we never seen Peuker and was not in the main stream media as a top selection but our recruiters clearly did their home work on him and decided he was our man. 17 years old and goes like a bull at a gate and extremely powerful , fast and has a nice leap.
Who would swap him for NHH now ?
Not many i think

Funny that Rhy said his Dad and player manager were doing everything they could to get him picked up by Richmond.

Letting them know which clubs were the most keen and where they expected him to be picked.
As if any of us wouldn’t do this to get our kids on the list! Well almost all of us. LOTW would already know in hindsight which club they’d go to.
