he will be fine as long as the Vic premier doesn't stick her nose in the case
She’ll stick her nose in, guaranteed, it’s easy to make a statement/stand against high profile footballers.
Meanwhile her head is buried 3 foot under the sand as repeat offenders are released on bail to break into homes and cars.

what ahppened to pickett was he sentenced??

December he will be. Pleaded guilty to 2 charges while the worst ones were dropped.

But him pleading guilty to the 2 charges is enough to me to suggest that those who were trying to protect him were doing so out of loyalty to the club & not the law. The guys he helped commit these crimes were grubs, one a pedo. After the chance the club gave him he should have known better.

defiantly should have known better...
Man has a family and a bunch of kids.
such a shame, he is in this Situation

Was chatting to someone very close to one of the charged parties last week. This is a summary of what they said:

  • both very surprised to be charged
  • neither were present or in the immediate vicinity when the bad injuries happened and neither were directly involved in anything physical
  • there are some known shady characters in the other group
  • attempts were made to extort payments from the players well after the night in question
  • the players were naturally advised by lawyers not to engage

It is also observed neither of these people have ever been involved in attacking anyone before so would be completely out of character. And the two players have been consistent with their position.
May is a cleanskin?

Why doesn’t it count?

It would seem he hasn't actively participated in the crime. It would be hard to see Marlion as some sort of mastermind money man for a criminal gang. So at worst he has committed a fairly marginal level of the crimes to which he has pleaded guilty. I don't think he handled very large sums of money either. He hasn't been charged with conspiring in any sense.

Marlion clearly made an error of judgement. But as a citizen, what punishment would you want for a person who committed that level of crime?

poor Stephen.
thoughts and prayers.

just wrong place wrong time again and again and again

It is not well known and probably not my place to say, but May had a very difficult upbringing. He has done extremely well to get as far as he has. There is a reason sensible people like Dion and Lynch hang out with him. They respect him.

I think the story was that he lent his credit card to his cousin who used it to hire the van that was used in the burglaries, then they paid him back with stolen money. I have no idea of the truth of this story TBH. If the story is true, I guess the question is, did he know beforehand what the van was hired for. If he didn't know then I have some sympathy for him. Like they say you don't get to choose your family.

As they say.... "cool story".

No one pleads guilty to charges for lending someone a credit card & reeceiving stolen good/money without knowledge.

Remember, the guilty make up stories to appear innocent too. And the completely innocent rarely plead guilty of any charge

When your dopey cousin hires a van to commit a burglary with your credit card and the van is identified and you have a criminal record then you are stuffed no matter what your story. What gets me is why didn't they just steal a van? Theft clearly wasn't beneath they.

Gonna be honest, doesn't sound that believable to me. Would have seen the charge on the card, yeah? Didn't question it at all. I think it was more believeable they approached him for help & he found the pressure of history/tribe and went along with helping in a very passive way Vs telling them no, and risking being called a sellout to his people etc. Stuff like that can happen to A LOT of African American NBA players as well. Once they get some money, the hood think they have funder to their idea's who "owes them".

The real strength is still saying no. If you don't, you are an accomplice.

I got a weird, very "not perfect" piece of feedback when i was a teen. Some mates of mine stole some cash from another student, i only found out afterwards, but i knew they had stolen it - off another student i neither liked or disliked. The cash, around $100, they had got through donations for some cause - was a pretty shitty act from the mates, who were not my close mates really. I just kept out of it, didn't report them & I had actually forgotten my lunch and asked them if I could borrow $5 to get a sausage roll for lunch, which they gave. They were busted before lunch and asked to give the cash back, but were $5 short & then i got brought in for the $5. In their heads, the 3 of us had stole it. Was a big deal. My parents were brought in & the 2 kids got suspended & I got a warning, without the suspicion. My Dad was really disgusted with me & i felt pretty shameful, but also knew i hadn't really stole anything, i just wanted $5 to get lunch - but i knew i knew. My Dad's feedback that day was weird as **** " I can;t believe you would do that. And for $5. If your going to get yourself into this shit, at least make sure you getting the lot, not f-ing $5". End of the day, me at 14 when this happened and it got busted, i knew i was guilty enough to feel guilty.

The charge he’s pleaded guilty to is possessing and handling stolen money. Guessing that at some point after being repaid the cash he knew it was stolen cash or cash made from stolen goods. In a spot of bother and would think the loyalty to family will fly with the judge

Again, your making excuses.

You can't be charged for receiving stolen money unless they consider it reasonable that you could have known it was stolen,

These blokes he was lending money to ( he can say they stole his card, but logically, sounds a lot like he knew), they were tip-rats. Known for stealing. I might be wrong, but he had commited crimes of theft with these blokes in his past.
But even if we believe his rather unbelievable story, When they stole his card to rent a car in their own town even though they already own cars, or ones to loan off friends - did that not seem weird? Did he not ask them "why", especially knowing the character of the people involved? When they paid him back with money he knew they more than likely didn't "earn", did he not know?

He pleaded guilty. He is guilty. No "*". Bloke was 31 years old FFS. Been to prison. Made a family, lived such a life that i owned a book from him, which i purchased, while all this was going on.

The fact he already had a criminal record isn't another "*" either. He is in that position because he deserves to be. He committed crimes, got caught, got charged.

Despite all this, Marlion got given a chance to redeem himself & got given, the absolute best, 1st game opportunity of any player in AFL history. He got to debut in a Grand Final for Richmond. Richo, Knights, the Kellaways & so many other Richmond people would have given everything to play in a Richmond GF. This guy got gifted it without ever even needing to play a single game for us.

He knew better. Stop making excuses for him. He is guilty. Pleaded guilty & the story his lawyers made up was not believable. If it was, they wouldn't have told him to plead guilty. Again, when i was 14 years old i have enough maturity to understand that when i accepted the $5 for a sausage roll, knowing the money was stolen - It was something i deserved to feel ashamed of.
