Terrific that he's got 3x quality mentors for the next year at least with Lever, May & McDonald.

Not many better back groups to learn from in the comp.

I feel like he kind of reminds me of Rivers (The one we have now)
That wouldn’t be my first comparison.

Taylor definitely looks to have superior aerial ability, and more of a penetrating, accurate kick.

Rivers has a bit more run and dash, great for metres gained but not as accurate with his long kicks (or short kicks).

Taylor looks a bit like Hayden Young from Freo to me.

Steal of the draft. The kid has mongrel and swagger. He and Disco will be one hell of a duo.
Another steal of draft! Amazing that's the fifth one I've read about today. I think he'll be a very good player but these comments can only be confirmed in two or 3 years time. When a body of work has been put in place.

Taylor a more penetrative kick? Rivers can kick 60 off 1 step. And the main weapon of Taylor is his run and dash. Taylor isnt a silky player like Young. He is more like a Darcy Wilmot

I’d call Rivers a launching kick. I know he can hoof it 60m but he’s not over accurate.

Taylor looks like he can pierce it a little more accurately, and over a decent distance. A kick that’s sets you up to attack from the back half, rather than just yardage.

I’m just going off the highlight vids here.

Thanks for that championship

if anything Xavier Taylor's weakness is his kicking. Biomechanically he looks ok, so he'll play within his limitations as a defender but he couldn't be any further from a Hayden Young or Trent Rivers type. These guys also mention his kicking as a weakness. I think his kicking is equivalent to say a Jake Lever's. Sound for his role.

Where does it say his kicking is a weakness? I can’t find it.

if you click on the 'analysis' tab.
Got it. Thanks.

I’ve ready other reviews that like his kicking and it looks ok on the limited number of videos I’ve seen.

I’m going to get down to a couple of training sessions before Christmas so I’ll have a good look and report back.

A word of caution, I remember taking an extended lunch break a couple of times many years ago when I worked not too far from Gosch’s. It must have been late 2012.

The great Jimmy Toumpas’ skills looked absolutely mint in training conditions…

Terlich looked horrendous though.

Toumpas always had good skills, I think he just didn't have the resilience to make it in the AFL, he was Weigh down by expectations, and the constant comparisons with Wines. Also he had a double hip surgery after he was drafted, whuch made him a step slower, and when you don't have speed to begin with it made him even slower. The veil of negativity of Melbourne supporters destroyed his confidence also.

I've always said the negativity of this board was responsible for the 2007-2017 era.
