Player Watch #39 Liam Hetherton Welcome to Sydney - Rookie Draft

BloodyFooty I really enjoyed the short film. Nice message, nicely done. It's a bit shocking these days to hear words like "dago" and "wog" on screen (but a significant historical reminder) and some of the Italian accents were a bit fake. But I loved seeing the authentic depiction of life in the 80s. Thanks for sharing!

Kbroome I think you have made a good point highlighting that Liam has been made a Cat B rookie unlike Noah Chamberlain who is Cat A - I think that suggests Liam stands higher in the pecking order. A Cat B spot is worth more because there are fewer players that it can be used for and it can't be taken by a senior-listed player being moved to the rookie list (like Rampe & Lloyd).
Were they not both listed as Cat B rookies?

Firstly, I don’t think we had any Cat A spots available. And secondly, if only LH was taken as a Cat B rookie, why have we gone in one Cat B rookie short?

The only way I think NC could be a Cat A rookie is if, despite earlier suggestions to the contrary (due to Cat B restrictions), Will Edwards is still a Cat B rookie.

That is a good point. I was basing it on what Rookie Me Central put in their draft round up. Apart from Noah, we seem to have 5 Cat A rookies (Hanily, Edwards, Lloyd, Rampe, Hamling) and 1 Cat B rookie (Hetherton). That suggests we could have put Chamberlain either as Cat B or Cat A. It would be surprising if we put Chamberlain as Cat A when we could have put him as Cat B and, I think, it would not be a vote of confidence in Noah because it would suggest to me that we have the Cat B spot in mind for someone else in next year's draft and we're less certain about Noah's future.

We’re only allowed 5 Cat A rookies because we have a senior list of 37. The limit is 42 combined senior and Cat A.

That is very disappointing news, especially for Liam. Hopefully he can use the rest of the year to build up his body and come back better and stronger in the pre-season.

The only silver lining that springs to mind is that it gives us the option of taking someone in the MSD without Adams retiring.

are stress fracture/issues a modern thing or just beter diagnosed. So many players, especially young players seem to be getting them.

Can someone remind me whats the 'official' and 'unofficial' news with his contract?

Did he get another year already?

Just had a quick look at the rules, and the inactive list only applies to the primary list, and Cat A rookies. Not sure what options we have when a Cat B rookie is injured long-term.
