There is precedent in England when Wimbledon relocated from SW London to Milton Keynes.

The supporters turned around and created a new Wimbledon club, switched their allegiances completely, and now the replacement club is in a higher division than the Milton Keynes club. A metaphorical case of burning the club down and rebuilding from the ashes.

Here, to be fair, the Swans moved cities in '82 to Sydney, and the remnants of old Fitzroy are in Brisbane - and both clubs retained quite solid support from their original bases in Melbourne. I remember talking to a few Melbourne based Swans fans briefly after the '05 GF.
My initial thought was, 'I didn't know they ever played the tennis in Milton Keynes! Must've been a Covid thing.'

I do believe I shall be having one of those training shirts...

Some of them are still bitter about it, see RoyLions posts from the main board in this thread about it

Some of them would have Fitzroy back in the comp today if they had the chance

Posting about Fitzroy merging with Brisbane is like a bat-signal (lion signal?) for RoyLions to correct you.

He is technically right - Fitzroy does exist in a suburban league - but for all intents and purposes the AFL Fitzroy side has ceased to exist and is fully merged into the Brisbane side. I sort of expect him to jump into this thread now to 'well ackually...' me within the next half hour.

Like one of those Japanese soldiers who were still running around after World War 2 refusing to believe the war was over

Yeah, wouldn't argue that there are some still salty about it all
But both clubs retained a significant percentage of the Melbourne supporter base.

(This is why the new Tassie team really should be the Kangas or Saints etc, but the AFL are weak as piss)

I always wondered with this guy, did he go around still killing people for 30 years or did he not slay a single soul? He was officially relived of his duties and went on to have a normal life....if he committed murder post WWII he sure as hell got away with it.

He killed a few people in the course of raiding farms for supplies etc but he got away with it.

I would pay good money to see a RoyLions - Briztoon - SGIO interaction.

First guy was given a pardon for any crimes committed, assume the other 2 did as well

A modernised version of the Fitzroy lion is one of my best sellers.* Although that could be just regular Brisbane supporters (rightly) preferring that to their current logo.

*I.e., I've made about $10 off it in two and a half years

Roofed stadium approved by Tasmanian parliament which was the last hurdle to be cleared for them to join the AFL

As I understand it the stadium is likely to plunge Tasmania into a great depression level recession and people will be forced to line up for soup to be poured into their hats for sustenance.

Probably not far off that. Tasmania isn't like WA where we could afford a lazy billion dollars on a stadium, and Hobart is one eighth the size of Perth so can't really justify this.

The AFL are being utter campaigners insisting on this as a prerequisite for admitting a Tasmanian team.

Even more concerning when you remember they have twice as many mouths to feed

The worst part is you know how they're going to keep it afloat; the guvment will use WA's money and the AFL will use successful clubs that don't need propping up money. So we'll be paying for it twice.

It should be Norf and the Saints. Have a look at the last AFL distribution, Gold Coast and GWS got $34M each and the Lions $30m, The two worst supported teams Norf and the Saints got $26m each. Combine those 2 and there is an instant saving of $26m. West Coast got $16m and Richmond got $18m.
How fair is that. The weak as piss AFL talks a lot about equalization but continues to support bankrupt clubs. The dividends should be Equalized as well.
