Every ex player who looked at the pitch before the start of play said they expected the bat to dominate the ball.

Enter Starc.

He tore them a new one a week or so ago too.

Ex players aren't wicket curators though, did they do a Tony Greig and stick their car keys in the pitch ? :p

Imagine showing common sense. Why would we want to bat under lights with the new ball?
Because with proper fields they’d have been dismissed for 265.

And we would’ve gave four overs.

Cummins will be back soon to replace Doggett.

It'd be great to have Hazlewood too but that aside we've transitioned through some unfortunate injuries pretty good I reckon.

Starc has made up for some poor bowling from the other end, which we could've eased in this game by playing Lyon.

But instead we're risking the loss of championship points because of a slow over rate.

Cummins is a fantastic bowler but a poor tactical captain and Smith isnt either which is one of our great problems.
Our opening options are very poor (head wont work long term) and our depth in middle order bats is not there which is why we have gone back to Marnus and a wicket-keeper.
We have some really good fast bowlers coming through but injuries are an issue and we have no spinners coming through.

I agree totally on the over rates but thats a separate issue.

Every single player on the fence for Archer is dogshit coaching

Cummins has done the same to the tail so it's not a Smith thing
Ronald McDonald isn't a coaches arseh*le and is very lucky to have one of the greatest bowling quartets in test history at his disposal

This is why Cummins is a better captain than Smith.

What we're doing is obvious as a strategy, but it's a) a bit soft, and b) might hurt just as much as losing a wicket or two overnight would've been.
I think it’s more than a captaincy thing because this has happened for years, and I’ve seen other countries do it too.

Clearly someone in the coaching or analytics thinks that buying tail wickets is better than bowling the same way you got the previous 7-9 wickets. Beats me.

My thought is if you don't bowl a certainly number of overs in a session then you field one short for 30 minutes after the break.

Runs are the only thing that hurt. Whatever overs short per day you calculate by the run rate and those runs are added to the total as extras. Today for example we will be 15 overs short. Multiply that by 4.4 runs an over and that’s another 66 runs. Yiu watch how quick they get through the overs then.
