They've reported on the news one had a shotgun - the other had a semi. Hence the 100 or so odd shots.

She is Kellie Sloane, the NSW Opposition leader, but also the local Member of Parliament. She was at another local event when the shootings occurred; went in a community ambulance and ended up under the bridge where the gunmen were shown shooting from, and assisted some injured.

To be honest I am surprised it lasted so long as there are always police at Bondi Beach. I am surprised they did not respond in less than a few minutes.

There's at least one police officer dead. So, perhaps they did respond immediately.

Three acts of violence stick in my mind from when I was a kid. The assassination of Bobby Kennedy, the Vietnam War (and the graphic execution by that South Vietnamese general) and the Munich Olympics terror attack.

We haven't progressed in the 50+ years since. There is just as much war and violence as there ever was. One of many things about this world that I won't miss when I'm gone.

Anyway, that's off topic. My heart breaks for all those who are victims of this senseless act of hatred and violence. I hope all the injured recover and I wish for peace for the families of those killed.

Without going too far down a rabbit hole not related to this incident, look at how hard the early Christians tried to preach the message of Jesus, as an example. So many were 'martyred' for their beliefs by tyrannical government who didn't want people getting the idea in their heads that all are equal and worthy of respect and dignity. Then of course, it became the appointed religion and ended up like all the others throughout history.

Anyway, that's way off topic.

I'm a little more optimistic than this. I think these days we hear and see everything due to even poor people in the world having cameras. I shudder to think what happened in dark corners of the world decades ago.

And even Australian cities used to have a lot of day to day violence.
