A short sharp training report from the great Caesar on PRE today!

https://www.puntroadend.com/threads/pre-season-training-2026.59943/page-109

Australia Day Training:

No rest for the wicked, another 3 hour session put in by the boys.

Jonty: Back to main training with a bang 😍 .
Lalor: In typical Aussie BBQ fashion Sammy was swatting away players like swatting away flies.
Armstrong: Harry was really good today.
NRT: Great crumbing goal which either drew applause, for his great piece of work or the fact that it coincided with that 10 minute drill being over;)
Kaleb: Is looking so confident this pre-season which provides and interesting and welcome conundrum.
Jack Ross: He will be there round 1, he is one of the standard setters and in peak fitness.

Midfield Roster Today: Nank, OHB, Lalor, Taranto, Hopper, Prestia, McCauliffe, Sonz, Ross, Taj, Trigger, (i am assuming some wingers were brought in for this drill).

Backline: Just a general statement, we have all the makings of an elite backline when we get the balance of defense and attack right, (question: which player/players are capable of shutting down opposition elite smalls?)

That's it, it is a holiday after all and you would have already been "FULLY SATED" by Match Sim Friday reports.

Cheers

this crop better than Hafey's 67.. KB, Hart, Sheedy, Bourke, Clay, Green, Northey, Ronaldson, Jewell.

I'm gunna update my membership to the Grand Final package

4 flags incoming.
You forgot Barrot. Best of all.

Barrot was unstoppable from 67 to 69. Went off the boil a bit after that. Eventually traded to the saints and we got Ian Stewart, who was magnificent for us. Great memories....

It’s something that’s played on my mind for a while.

We went through a group who would get slaughtered by the likes of Milne and other smalls for a very long time.
Tryers like push-up and Morris just couldn't nullify elite small forwards.

We were then blessed with no nonsense defenders like Broad and Grimes who could come up with an intercept mark but were so good at ground level that they could shut down the likes of Betts and Charlie Cameron.
There’s certainly a future opening for someone who’s extremely solid defensively on a small forward. They might not need to be the best offensively but could be one of the first picked in the side due to playing such a vital, needed role for the team.

Tyler Sonsie & Jack Ross tearing up the track again

Teams don’t worry as much about having lockdown defenders these days. A strong defensive unit is better than any individual and it ultimately doesn’t matter if X player kicks 4-5 goals if the rest of their team struggles.

Our backline will probably be on the taller end but the likes of Brown, Trainor, Gibcus, Balta and Gray can play different roles. I think we’ll cover smaller forwards with taller defenders if they are the better players.

At the end of the day the back 6 are most important from centre clearances and the ball has to hit the deck before small forwards will become a problem. Being tall doesn’t hurt for 6-6-6 and after that our smaller wingers and midfielders can work back.

This year I’d like to see us use a back 7 which I think is likely. It may explain why Grlj is training down back. Plus we’ve had the likes of Trezise, Trainor, Banks on the wing. We’ve got that much talent in the back half we have to find a way to use it to our benefit.

Would love to see Steely Green given a trial at that role. Every time I watch replays, he seems to be the Richmond play at half back involved in the tackle pressure or the last man up after the umpire blows his whistle. He even walks like Liam baker

Lived there all my young adult life pretty much, wouldn't have it any other way. Gone to BShyte now (a bit), but then so have I.
Too much hooker's heroine and headbanging will do that to you

We've had some good midfielders but the only one that was anywhere near as good as Barrot at centre clearance was Nathan Foley. Both unbelievable
Brilliant LTT...Billy needs no introduction, but Nathan Foley was heart and soul...His centre clearances and ridiculous pace out of the middle...Great times...He deserved to hang around for our success...Like a few though...:D
