Adel finished on Top - so by any measure their midfield was quite capable.

Ask yourself a simple question - why wasn’t one of our more fancied mids able to turn the game in the 3rd QTR instead of Long - particularly as you have essentially decided he is our weakest mid and should be overlooked for Anderson.
How did our weakest mid change the course of such a high pressure sudden death game ?

These are simple observations that sensible review would conclude, you are way off the mark.

You are entitled to your conclusion. Happy to let time to determine the outcome

Defenders:
Moore, Frampton, Quaynor, Maynard, Houston, Daicos, Perryman

Mids:
Cameron, Daicos, DeGoey, Long, Pendles, Allan, Steele, Lipinski, Steene

Forwards:

McStay, McReery, Elliott, Schultz, Sullivan, Sidebottom, Buller

Its a solid team, but not sure i see where big improvement comes from last year.

I know it's a bit late now, but could Ed Allan play as a shutdown defender? We need speed back there
Ed shot up in late teens. Taking him a while to realise how to play ‘tall’ (marking, bullocking etc).

Harrison plays before Sullivan.

The more prudent question might be can we win while Buller gets spiflicated in ruck by Marshall and TDK

It’s 22 v 22. Collingwood has succesfully come up against a double ruck combo many times in the past. Whoever they go with, Buller Steene or McStay…. I’ll back the team in to get the job done

I am prepared to say Buller is a long way behind the other 2 in terms of pure ruck craft

I wasn't convinced in Moore's comments yesterday.

I am assuming he'll miss opening round.

Looking one week past the Saints game for a moment, with Moore and Howe out (and perhaps Reef not back too), who do we imagine standing Thilthorpe, Walker and Fogarty when we play the Crows? Frampton to Thilthorpe, perhaps Maynard to Fogarty and…….???

I think it has to be Cochran on Tex as much as he'll be outmuscled. Tex players higher up the ground so he'll have the endurance to go with him.

This may be a game where Steene has to play so he and Cameron can float back into defence.

Its certainly going to be a different looking defence, isn't it? Realistically, if that Crows' tall forward trio get enough supply, they'll overpower us. We'll need to dominate them higher up the ground, to minimise their F50 entries.

Out Howe Moore
In Reef and either TJ or Jo Cochran

From reports both Howe and Moore looking at round 2 or 3 return.

Rest of the line up depends on who things go at Mars this weekend.

Just go easy this weekend.

Ramp things up next week on the training deck at KGM.

I can't think of a game where all 3 talls dominated a game. It's usually just Thilthorpe. The other 2 are 193cm and 192cm, hardly giants.

You know that Walker and Fogarty play taller/stronger than their heights suggest.

And itts not a matter of all three dominating. They just need to create a mismatch so one of them can get off the chain.

I'm looking forward to seeing Cochran though. We need to fast-track a Howe replacement. Hopefully he seizes the opportunity.

Maynard plays well on Fogarty too.

So it's "just" 35 year old Tex we probably don't have a match up for.
Provided that Frampton can contain Thilthorpe......

Bringing it back to the Saints game (after I derailed it), with King out, do they actually have any notable tall forwards? They've been irrelevant for so long that I have paid virtually no attention to their line up over the past few years.

Played on him 3 times in 2025. Thilthorpe kicked 1 goal (pretty sure from the Cox 50m penalty in the QF).
