Autopsy Saints v Dees

I have felt we have been drafting far to many outside players of late. Boxshall might be the only above average contest player we have drafted in recent years.

Too early to tell with Trav. Garcia is more outside, Wilson is full outside.

This is all in top of Wood, Hill, Henry and butler who all struggle or won’t try to win a contest.

Doesn’t help we are playing our best contest player of halfback this year.

This is frustrating to me. How many times have we had someone like Wilson or Nas charging forward with the ball, only to need to stop and hesitate because there's no one forward to kick to?

The fast, running game style is contradicted by our own defensive press. Can't have it both ways.
I dont know whether we have overloaded Wilson with structures or if it's mental for him but he seems to not be playing on instinct. Someone with his running capacity should take off at every opportunity yet he seems to do the opposite and I dont remember him doing that his first year.

I thought Tauru in the last quarter was a positive. Started clunking marks and put on pressure with his run downs and tackling .

Hugo the other positive, was excellent at the coal face.

I actually didn't mind Flanders, thought he was useful around the contest, found space and is a handy player.

Its wild how out of form Sharman is. Looks completely bereft of confidence and was a complete liability.

We need to go back to basics and that means tackling and pressure.

Melbourne's forwards were always going to be a worry. Even with Max in the side we look thin. Marshall needs to find some form. Keeler did some ok things but he just doesn't stay in the contest for long enough. Owens is handy but still so all over the shop. But what's the long term plan? We are going to need another tall target even if Max recovers. Honestly Mihocek would have been a handy pick up for us.

Alarm bells are ringing for Hammer at full back. Completely exposed today.

Our composure in front of goal was awful especially in the last quarter.

Scary thing for me is it doesn't seem obvious how we improve. Looking like a very long season.

I think some of ya’ll have forgotten how fecking long the season is. Grand finalists in recent memory have started with worse records.
Not trying to be a wet blanket....but, if St Kilda lose to GWS it'll be first 0-3 start since 1996.

Even 0-2 has only happened 5 times in the past 30 years (1997, 2000, 2013, 2016 and 2017).

It’s all ogre. Called my old man he said only once since ~1965 have the Saints gone 0 - 2 and made Finals. Glad I’m in Ireland, can tune the **** out! Galway looking good this year. ****ing **** **** February Premiers again ahhh it was fun while it lasted

I always want this team to prove my pessimism wrong and they alway always prove it right.

0-4, 1-5 by round 6 (based on Port looking like true shit) season done before mid year
Yep hard not to see that playing out in all honesty I’d love to be wrong but let’s get real beating GWS Lions or Crows on their patch would require a Fckn minor miracle in form reversal and ball usage skills and decision making skills to massively lift …not realistic

It was kind of funny watching the game and following the Game Day thread. One minute some player would get a justifiable bake for some basic error. Next minute they would do something good. Happened quite a few times.

What a Jekyll and Hyde bunch we have at the moment. More Jekyll than Hyde though. That is the problem.

Silly of me to think that this year was going to amount to anything fruitful.

We have some absolutely stupid players in the club, who are completely incapable of exciting basic football fundamentals under any sort of pressure. We looked structurally vulnerable every time we turned the ball over and there will be many teams licking their lips if we continue to serve up poor ball movement.

We have zero leaders at the club. I watched the doco when it came out and I immediately thought Sincs and Wilkie were not suited for the role and the small sample size makes me look like I am right.

When does it get good? It seems like it gets good for every other club after a short down period, but the exact opposite for us. It’s just nothing but hurt. I hate how this club makes me feel depressed and ruins my weekends.

Reading the stats is like being on acid. Absolutely warped. But not in a fun way. Gawn and our ex skipper were their highest possession getters. Cooper had more touches than Latrelle Pickett.

I honestly had no idea Tom Sparrow was even playing.

Fair, but he had already given up the captaincy and was repeatedly quoted as being desperate to stay. Having another senior body compete for selection would not have been a bad thing. Not saying he would have been the difference today but he was certainly better than Macrae, who has purportedly replaced his role in the squad.
You’re probably right, and definitely right regarding Macrae

Have watched both of your games this season and cannot understand why NWM is playing forward so much? Is it to try to break a tag? Surely you’d rather have him getting 25-30 damaging touches in the middle than kicking 2-3 playing out of the square?
couldn't agree more. even today at half time with a hard tag, he had 11 touches and 2 goals.... not a bad return for a bloke copping serious attention. the game swung away from us when RTB moved him off the ball.

We absolutely have to put Tauru forward. He's tough. Will throw himself into the contest 100%. He'll clunk some too.

I don't know how anyone can be happy with Flanders game. We gave up pick 7 for a ready made midfielder that was supposed to slot straight in and improve us. He was deplorable at times today. Just so dumb. Shocking skills and decision making.

Jsos did some good things but he looks slow and cumbersome.

Ross is starting to give me the ick.

"So St.Kilda" is people coming on here after every loss and crying like the whole squad is useless and life is not worth living.

We had 7 goals from Nas and Hall today. - when was the last time we had genuine goal kicking mids?

Sometimes I think people forget where this club has been for the last 10-12 years - absolutely directionless.

Now that we have a genuine plan and roadmap, people aren't happy because they didn't get sugar hit straight away.

Probably the same supporters that were upset that Ross tossed Gresham, Billings, Membrey etc.

Literally every single player that Ross has cut from the old regime is either out of the league, in the twos or lucky to be getting a game.
Dude this it's merely a flesh wound attitude needs a break. We are in trouble. Our coach seems part of the problem.

We had 32 shots at goal today ... that's a positive

Hopefully the players & coaches have a more positive mindset and as supporters we gotta back them in to turn it around .... as hard as that is given the disappointment of these first 2 rounds ..... there is enough talent there to say we can

Sometimes you need a smack in the face to wake the fk up
Season is absolutely done I am afraid. We have played 2 non finalists and played some of the worst brand of football imaginable.

The game plan is laughable, skills are as bad or worse then the last 2 seasons, and we can't even co-ordinate keeping our best player on the ground at the death when the game was there to be won. We are an unprofessional mess, and there is nothing that is going to right this ship any time soon. There are just too many good sides. We are cooked.

Play the kids, wait for Ross to be moved on at the end of the year. Its the only play we have got.

He's turned to shit too. He walks around waiting to be fed like prize poodle. He's an incredible player but he's got way ahead of himself to the point where he refuses rot do anything difficult. He wants to be a finisher without any of the hard work.

Max Hall should be cloned and every other campaigner in the side dropped for them.
have heard some chat Naz will end up our best #7 ever.... he could learn something from Lenny's work ethic and never say die attitude. Lenny would impose himself in some fashion in any game, even if he was getting heavily sat on. early doors obviously for Naz with tags, but not loving the sulky vibes coming off him atm

We are in trouble because media pundits declared that we are all in right now so must win games - but everyone that has a connection to the club is telling you that this is all part of a much wider plan?

We easily could’ve been 2-0 but we’re not, doesn’t mean you start throwing the toys out

What's more alarming is we dominated almost every statistic, but you would never have guessed that based on how we played today.

Shows the intent was there but there's a serious disconnect with the game plan and skill execution

This place is so depressing lol

Almost like… the game plan is actually in good order but we need the players to learn to get/stay composed and execute consistently.

Not rush their snap shots from 5m out, spoil each other on the top of the goal square or drop uncontested marks inside forward 50?

Lenny would die on the field if it meant stopping a goal.

Today I watch Nas shirk multiple tackles. Just stood there and made no contact. I get that he’s the Ferrari, but surely laying a tackle is expected of every single player that takes the field

Why was NAS off the field for what seemed like an eternity, right after his goal, when we had the momentum and f50 ball?
Is it possible he was being disciplined? (Even though he just kicked a near goal?)

The game plan isn't in good order. We have multiple players running in and the opposition gets the ball out and there's nobody to cover them. Happened against the pies. Blaringly obvious.
