Yeah wouldn't be rushing him in at all. He also isn't going to make a difference to our back 6 this early I think. They aren't the best defensive group but they're better than what they showed on the weekend. If we are to bring in anyone it'd probably be AMW to shore up our ground level game.

I'd like to see Tholstrup play half back rather than as a tagger tbh

Not that it matters given we aren't anywhere close to contending and it would take a miracle for us to make finals even with a soft draw but for a bottom 5 side we've copped some pretty rough double ups this season. Hawks (2025 prelim loss), Suns (2025 SF loss), Freo (2025 EF loss to Suns), Bulldogs (9th), Essendon (finished one spot beneath us but beat us) and Richmond. 4 sides that finished 5th-9th on the ladder.

Where's Xavier Taylor at? Defence doesn't look great, just wondering how close he may be to a debut.

Petty, CJ, & Tholstrup in, no May, no Rivers, no McVee, no Bowey, Howes & Turner now settled in defence, it's a very different group of players in there at the moment, will take a fair while for them to really gel and instinctively know where each other is.

Combine that with an attacking style as opposed to a crowded 'contest and defence' style and the backline is a lot more exposed by the midfield now, so it just magnifies the above for a while.

It was bad. Like really bad. But I think that's to be expected for a little while as all those changes get dealt with. Not sure bringing in a first gamer changes that right now. It's only games together that will help.

Xavier Taylor has a lot of great physical and attitude/confidence traits, but for mine he’s too light at the moment to be taking any sort of critical role in the backline. He’s also looked a touch overawed in the intra club practice and the first simulation against North which surprised me given he’s a cocky personality. If (when given his history) Jiath gets injured that might be Taylor’s chance if he has some consistent VFL form as he’s probably the most similar to Jiath in style at the moment.

I’d be cautious on AMW too. I think he’s benefited from “absence makes the heart grow fonder”. Yes he’s got leg speed - or he did prior to the knee injury - but when I’ve watched him in the VFL his kicking is erratic and I haven’t seen him defending well against a forward in the pure sense. I got down to training and he did look decent in some drills where he was defending physically larger guys. I just don’t think he’s an answer at this point.

I think it was likely just a Nas thing and I don’t think he’ll be a regular tagger. sKing in his presser said it was identified several weeks ago that Tholstrup would take Nas which was interesting. sKing has mentioned a few times how enamoured he is with Tholstrup’s athletic traits so he will get a decent shot at locking down a role.

I’d expect when he manages to get a game Taylor will be half back flank and they would be trying to exploit his run. He is reasonably tall but he’d get tossed around by similar height AFL forwards at this stage.

I think he’d need a good run of VFL performances and injury or severe loss in form for Jiath or Salem to get a game.
